I gotta agree with you, but i also think if a proper FPS comes, people will see how shallow and un-original all these CoDs and MMS in general are. I'm hoping Wolfenstein: The New Order is gonna be that game to make the difference.
Brainless monkeys that humans are, we keep buying it and there is absolutely no reason they should stop milking these kind of games.
Luckily I don't care for fps games myself, especially not the multiplayer ones. Nor will I ever do.
Gamers are buying the game even before it is released by pre-ordering it. They buy it the first day it comes out, even though no one has played it or seen anything other than what the publisher and worse, the gaming press, wants you to see.
To make things worse, gamers go to publisher's and developer's forums to ask for this, that and the other game mechanic to be used in a game, even if that game should not have such as game mechanic and that is something else that is wrong with games today, they are built around a specific game mechanic or mechanics and they turn out to be garbage.
Do gamers really want games to be different, especially FPS games? Their purchasing decisions show that they do not due to the plethora of CoD games and CoD clones on the market when games that defined a genre and brought something different to the genre end up being niche market games or turn into CoD clones themselves.
That leaves one kind of development studio to bring these games to the gamer, the indie studio as noted above (though BIS is not really an indie studio though). That they are the only studios to break out of the typical shooter mold, it can be hard to garner interest due to the fact that though gamers complain about garbage, they keep buying it so they keep getting what they are really asking for.
What is needed is a game that tosses out building games around a gameplay mechanic and design a game from the ground up and get basic features into the game before adding other gameplay mechanics and even then, ensure that they cannot be used in ways that normally can't be done. A for instance is jumping. Sure, people can jump in real life. They can even shoot a weapon in real life if jumping, but what cannot be done is hit a target while jumping and are more likely a target for someone else who is keeping both feet on the ground.
Go back to more realistic damage from weapons. Get rid of shotguns that can be used to snipe someone across a 400 meter map and only allow them to be used within 40 yards and change the deadliness depending on how far an enemy is from the weapon. Though I hate to use the word penalty, make it so choosing the right weapon for a mission or round a priority and penalize the gamer for choosing the wrong one. Why bring an M24 when an M4 would be the better weapon to use?
lol idk what an m24 is but maybe its so they can wall bang better... like from across the map thru several walls...
rofl... like in that one movie where they guy is playing god with his thermal vision and a .50 cal sniper rifle... he was their exit strat...
i mean obviously being a movie... gotta dramatize the role a bit and put the lives of a squad in the hands of one guy... lmao
Just Look at the state of FPS on PC, you have team fortress and counter strike leading the way. And look how old those games are. Hardly anyone plays COD and Hadly anyone plays BF on PC.
But if you go on console theres hundreds of thousands of players. I fought the good fight if you count all of the places that I bought PC games from I have over 170 PC games. Right now I am working on beating all of the PC games that I have never beat and then I am buying a PS4 and moving on.
If by some freak chance developers stop craping on PC I will move back to PC gaming. Until then I will be enjoying my PS4!
Dont forget Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
Honestly, ive heard someone say before that "Call of Duty is the hardest game ever, its fun as hell" .....Then I introduced them to this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70iFdnI-xfA
No, developers should look at bringing something fresh to the FPS genre instead of recycling the same garbage over and over.
