I'm all for the idea of there being 'life out there somewhere"... but it strikes me as odd that it always seems to conform to humanities pop culture interpretations of 'aliens'.

they're always more or less described as the typical 'grey non-gender-individual".
are we to assume there is only one aliens?
why isn't it "the blob"?
why not "E.T."?

does this make no sense to anyone else?

Of course, that's taking a particular biochemical perspective when there are other ways to look at the question.

First, you gotta look at the abundance of the different elements. We need to be built from abundant elements. Then life needs covalent bonds - and not many elements form covalent bonds. All forms of life have Hydrogen, Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Sulfur, and Phosphorus in every cell. When you look at life, you gotta build covalent bonds, and that really limits your element options.

Then you need a solvent so you can split apart and recombine different molecules. Water is far and away the best solvent for that.

So, it really comes down to good ol fashioned probability. But I could be wrong.

Not only that, we will never find an exoplanet capable of sustaining complex life unless there is life there already. Also, there are no exoplanet options even remotely close to us.

If life does exist elsewhere it's probably unicellular. It took billions of years for multicellular life to form on Earth. Intelligent life took 4 billion years.
