I'm all for the idea of there being 'life out there somewhere"... but it strikes me as odd that it always seems to conform to humanities pop culture interpretations of 'aliens'.

they're always more or less described as the typical 'grey non-gender-individual".
are we to assume there is only one aliens?
why isn't it "the blob"?
why not "E.T."?

indeed, it's commonly mentioned in film documenteries how they add human features to all the aliens to make them more relatable.

yeah it can get really bizarre even on earth but those things cant make a radio dish can they. Even if they were super intelligent they cant physically do it.

100% can be super intelligent things all over the universe but ones with spaceships and stuff probably have hand type things, a brain, eyes etc and they are going to be in places that make some sort of sense.

Anyway, answering this - it's because humans can base only what they know, that's why aliens look like anthropomorphized animals (mammals, birds, insects, fish, reptiles) or like enlarged amoeba (blob). Just like you can't imagine how 5 dimensional space looks.

My guess is that, even if we can't apprehend their form, that doesn't mean they cannot see us. In the same way we can see amoebas in a microscope but they aren't aware of the fact. Who knows? I won't even try to say that I can understand what they could be.
