Linear games...
A lot of games get knocks because they are deemed too "linear". One example, reading the Wasteland 2 discussion boards, some folks were saying that "at least it's not as linear as Shadowrun Returns". I've never played either game, but it got me thinking... why is linear such a bad thing? I appreciate an open world as much as the next guy, but sometimes it's actually a really enjoyable experience to be told a story instead of having to hunt it out, or "make your own".

So why the negativity towards linear games? Everything has their place. Whose with me?

Linear RPG's are ruining the gamefeeling, of making decisions and having freedom, exploring the world etc.

Why does every RPG have to include exploring and making decisions? Why can't it just allow for deep character customization (statistically) and tell a good story?

A lot of linear games get boring way too quickly and therefore ruin the experience.

On the other side of the coin, I'm personally having a lot more fun at the moment playing games like Remember Me (which is incredibly linear) then a game like Fallout New Vegas (which is open world enough that I can find myself spending more time thinking about what to do next then actually doing it). Like I said... sometimes it's nice to be told a story, rather than having to hunt for 30 hours just to get a taste of one.

Maybe it's not that this type of game is bad or inherently boring, but rather just the preference of the gamer?

I personally like to feel as if I have some control over the story and any possible outcome.
I don't disagree with that, but might I ask why? Doesn't creating your own plot twists have less impact then one you truly don't see coming?

Non-linear games are becoming so overrated, just give me a game with a good story. Especially one that doesnt lengthen out with the burden of having to travel across the whole map. i.e Assassins Creed Black Flag.........

I find it more fun to invent my own stories and gameplay.

Same here, when I'm playing a linear game, something always feels weird, like I'm missing something. So I usually and up turning around and looking for something in the game for hours until I give up and look online for an item that I need to find or an exit or something trivial like that.

Also, when I play linear games, I have a habit of constantly looking for bugs and invisible walls that some of them have.

I can see why some of you might prefer linear games but ive alreadys liked the feeling of being able to turn over each stone not knowing what ill find... Linear games just always seem to thrust some decision onto me that leaves me wishing i could have influenced it to turn out a different way.
