Depends on what. To me, french fries is the only appropriate use for ketchup, so I prefer mustard more often. Also it has to be a brown mustard. That yellow French's style stuff is god awful.

I had to look up what you were talking about, in France we exclusively use "moutarde de dijjon" it has nothing to do with that yellow tube of cancer i saw on google, it is fallacious.
Oh yea lol. "French's" is a brand name. I didn't mean actual mustard people eat in France. I like dijon style too.

Ketchup is more flexible, but mustard tastes better.

There's no excuse for ever touching ketchup if you're over the age of 6.

Unless it's the original fish sauce by that name.
In our language, soy sauce is called "kicap" (pronounced "kee-chahp"). Growing up, I always found it strange how similar the name and pronunciation of kicap is to ketchup, and thought it's a crazy coincidence.

Turns out it's not a coincidence. They both have their roots traced back to the same fish sauce.

So Sektor or Cyrax? Gotta go with Mustard.

Nah but for real I can’t stand generic yellow mustard. Other types of mustard are good when used right but that stuff smells like old socks to me. I use ketchup way more often than any mustard too

I like both for burgers and dogs/sausages. I like mustard on chicken sandwiches, and BBQ sauce on BBQ.

BBQ sauce is not ketchup!
I never said it was, but to put anything other than BBQ sauce on BBQ is sacrilege.

BBQ sauce is a pretty wide, diverse family. I guess the main difference between BBQ sauce and ketchup is the level of vinegar vs. sweetener. There are BBQ sauces that are vinegar based with tomato more as an adjunct, and the "standard" BBQ sauces that are completely tomato based with molasses and spices, but never everything all at once.

Ketchup starts with tomato paste and just overloads it with the vinegar and sugar.

it is not fair to say that ketchup and bbq sauce are related

the base of tomatoes does not mean the two are related

I didn't say they were related. Just that some (bad) BBQ sauces are ketchup-adjacent.

But what kind of mustard exactly? European, American, Russian, Dijon? Mustard comes in many flavors, from very hot and spicy to sweet. I love honey mustard the most, whoever came up with it is a genius, but I also love the spiciness

There is only one appropriate dip for french fries:

chocolate pudding
No milkshakes. As french fries are a utensil.
