Youtube adBlock crackdown
So Google is banning all adblocks from youtube. They will start issuing popup and after 3 videos you will not be able to use adblock. Either pay for premium or watch 3-5 unskippable ads each 15-30 sec.
Maybe in time there will be more ads. Every 10 seconds of video you will get 2 minute ad

Well, business is business 🤷‍♀️

However, as for 3/11/2023 I still do not receive the error where YouTube does not allow me to watch without adblocker 🤷‍♀️
If a website or service tells me to disable my adblocker, then I don't use that site/service. Simple as.

I don't need content that badly.

This is also the best way to stop them doing it. If people just don't use the service they will have to change.

They are banking that enough people will just put up with it.

Youtube has 2.70 BILLION users that frequent their site. DAILY.
The VAST majority do not use adblockers. They watch the ads.
A part of that 2.7B uses premium.

A TINY, MINISCULE, INSIGNIFICANT amount of people use adblockers.
And yet, Youtube and corporate bootlickers are claiming that a minority of people that use adblockers are somehow bankrupting Youtube.

It is pathetic. Then again, corporations and governments would rather spend money on putting spikes onto benches so the homeless cannot sleep on them than to... y'know.. fund homeless shelters.

This is the kind of world we live in. A corporate dystopia. Can't wait for more!

That is becuase most do not know the adblockers for phone, remember is a app not a website v:

I never understood how they got away with those in the first place. I never bothered with em.

There are only a couple of types of ads on YouTube. The unskippable ones are max like 10 or 15 seconds and always appear alone; the rest can be skipped after five seconds. Not particularly unreasonable. Do you guys not remember cable or something?

As for other sites, the ads are actually really helpful. It helps you identify terribad sites instantly. There are plenty of sites I've ♥♥♥♥♥♥ directed to and said "well, it looks a little retro but maybe the content is ok" and then suddenly a neon green bordered box with a flashing text telling me I have a virus scrolls down from the top of the window and I go "oh this is one of those sites" and close the tab.

Time is money. If you are binge watching videos they add up a sizeable amount of time.

Plus ad-blocking increases browsing safety and privacy a little bit.

I do not have issues with adblocking YouTube yet.

Reports of Google cracking down on ad-block use have been on and about for years.
RIP to all ASMR and podcast videos i cannot listen to them in background anymore
Basically, for using Youtube without ads, Google wants customers to pay AND to datamine them down to the last detail of their online activity. Normally, the rule is: you are either the customer or the "ware". But Google wants me to be both customer and ware? No thanks. Took me less than two days to figure out that I don't need Youtube in my life.

What do they care whether someone who isn't going to watch the ads anyway uses the site? That's just less bandwidth and they have to pay to content creators.

If you're binge watching videos, they probably do need to encourage you to do something else for a while.

I mean you could make the same argument for pop up windows... but at some point they became obnoxious. They need to achieve a balance or face people creating/using alternatives.
I never had problem with mine adblock, I know some people who did ofc and if you're a uBlock Origin user (or use an adblocker with a similar cosmetics modifier), you can add these commands in the uBlock dashboard to get rid of it!

youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)

youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

It's always weird seeing people cheer on a multi-billion dollar company.

I can only guess because some people feel a attachment to certain brands, logo's or products.

If it wasn't for ads, they would be no youtube period. But ads are annoying as hell.
Yeah, like I understand intellectually they are needed. I understand that. But when I get interrupted by one... Gah, I just get so annoyed. Especially since I never click ads out of principle, so its not like showing ads to me is efficient. Its not.

I think instead of banning ads they could try and make YouTube Premium more appealing to people.
