Trade school vs a 4 year college degree
Whenever the discussion of higher education comes up, many ask why a lot of people entering the workforce don’t consider trade school, vocational school or alternate paths as an option.

Many consider what is typically blue-collar work, for example, plumbing, electricians, construction worker, is non-option. For example, my family considers higher education and getting degree from a university to be a higher status. Things such as a masters degree, from any field, regardless of job viability, is seen as a success, while getting employment for a blue-collar position is looked down upon. My aunt, that is to say my mother’s sister, literally sold one of her houses to finance my cousin’s education. My cousin did get a masters degree in behavioral therapy.

This has caused significant pressure from my mother to provoke me to get a masters degree.

Is it the same for you? Would you ever consider telling a younger relative to go to trade school as opposed to university, instead?

I would insist that my younger relative or child become a carbon copy of me, yes. No individuality allowed.

Half the people who go through college don't even use their degree. Also half of them who go to college end up dropping out instead. It's important if you wanna be a doctor or lawyer, I guess, but other than that most people hiring don't even look at your college degree anymore.

Yes I would.
University is overrated and trades are underrated.

MAYBE if they have a real knack for schoolwork I'd say go to Uni if they wanted to be an engineer or scientist or something, but if they aren't very studious I think they'd often be better off going into trades. Besides, many current trade workers are old so within the next 10-20ish years I think demand for skilled tradesmen is going to go WAY up.

And also somebody could go to a voc tech highschool and then go on to university as well, which kind of gets the best of both worlds.

Status is irrelevant if it does not get you cash.

Trade degrees are perfectly fine if they get you a good paying position.

A master's degree by itself will not guarantee a job.

Hiring and employment process places emphasis on experience and social skills.

Same applies to the jobs themselves. Trade jobs have a bad rep compared to white collar jobs, but are not necessarily better than the former.

Trade jobs are often well paying, so it comes down to personal preference. Do you prefer to work hands on a lot, or do paperwork in front of a computer all day long?

Depends on where you want to go in life. But nowadays, college is over-saturated and lucrative trade job positions need to be filled.

College is over-saturated. There is a word called "Degree Inflation". Me personally I'm at the Top 15 percent making over 100k a year. I can weld (MIG and TIG), drive a forklift, and has a Commercial Drivers License.

It depends on what you want?

If you just wanna be rich, none of the options you provide are good, as they both indoctrionate you to become part of the system.
To make real cash, you need to diverge from the system.

Neither. You need to do what the truly successful do and pull yourself up by the bootstraps*.
