University is overrated and trades are underrated.
MAYBE if they have a real knack for schoolwork I'd say go to Uni if they wanted to be an engineer or scientist or something, but if they aren't very studious I think they'd often be better off going into trades. Besides, many current trade workers are old so within the next 10-20ish years I think demand for skilled tradesmen is going to go WAY up.
And also somebody could go to a voc tech highschool and then go on to university as well, which kind of gets the best of both worlds.
Trade degrees are perfectly fine if they get you a good paying position.
A master's degree by itself will not guarantee a job.
Hiring and employment process places emphasis on experience and social skills.
Same applies to the jobs themselves. Trade jobs have a bad rep compared to white collar jobs, but are not necessarily better than the former.
Trade jobs are often well paying, so it comes down to personal preference. Do you prefer to work hands on a lot, or do paperwork in front of a computer all day long?
Congratulations!
If you just wanna be rich, none of the options you provide are good, as they both indoctrionate you to become part of the system.
To make real cash, you need to diverge from the system.
