Do you think Astro Bot deserved GOTY?
Might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually think it does. The game is just pure fun, and there is a charming feeling of both innocence and nostalgia about it that reminds me of how gaming used to feel as a kid. The game would just bring a smile to my face when playing it.

Beyond that, the platform puzzles are just really fun, the game performs impeccably, and the game feel is off that charts. I haven't seen many games outside of the best Mario titles that perform that well.

I know Wukong is the fan favorite, but how do you guys feel about Astro Bot, assuming you own a PS?

I didn't play it. A few reviewers I trust said it was good.

It doesn't really look like a party game, so the fact it beat Mario Party Jamboree for the family category is a bit of a mystery to me.

I'm agreeing with everyone saying that Astrobot is a good game. But when you look at the sales and amount of people playing it should have been Wukong.
To be fair, revenue is not indicative of quality. The nominees would be nothing but battle royales and gachas otherwise.
Surprise, surpise. The game of the year award goes to an exclusive for consoles only... excuse me... for ONE console only... the whole thing just seems like an ad

It doesn't matter what I think. I didn't play it so I can't say.

What I can say is that I treat GOTY awards as something for others to care about.

The games I play are my GOTY award winners. That is all that matters to me.

It's Mario 64 for 7 year olds.

Wukong didn't win only because it's from China, it's kinda weird to see such blatant racism while at the same time pandering acceptance and diversity.

From what i've seen, Astrobot is a fun 3d platformer game! However not GOTY worth game from my bias.

I mean GTA 6 did win the anticipated game award and everybody knows it's going to be filled with far more MTX's and anti-consumer shenanigans than GTA 5 online, so that's not far off lol :steamlaughcry:

I mean I can't afford it, plus it's not on PC (Astro Bot). Journey to the West was a really good book, but it would have been cool if they used the voice actor from Dota 2 in Wukong, can't afford to buy that one too...

I mean if you old enough to be writing in internet forums are you old enough to play age appropriate games?

Wukong looks like 16+
Astro Bot 7-10 year olds....

Come on man.

I don't know but I never played it... and neither did most gamers.

This is logically true -- because most gamers don't own a PS5 -- so it is kinda strange that it got GOTY at The Game Awards.

The people who did play it really liked it, though. So there's that.

It is just one of over 250 different GotY awards.

Albeit it is one of the larger ones... But in short.. Yes.. there simply is not enough good games this year and most of the big AAA titles that had over 100m in budget are not even nominated for it.

Even a game such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard, that cost around 250m. was only nominated in the accessability catagory (something I think it would have won, but it lost.... it really lost to PoP)
Think about that.. a game that took 8 years to develop, had 250m budget, was overrly hyped.. failed miserable.. It barely sold anything (from an AAA perspective) It talked about it said as one of the most accessable AAA titles and inclusive ones.. yet did not even win that sub catagory..

We are talking about a game that downright removed spiders from the game to be more accessable, a game that dumbed down gameplay and had hand holding, so that all, no matter whom you were could play it... it had settings that made you immortal !!!!... Puzzles were just objects being highlighted and you had to click them....

Yet... no awards... not even accesability... ohh my...

But you know what they said.. It is most likely because of us "toxic" users that it failed, that is what the developers and their moderators say... gamers are the reason it failed... without us, it would have been GotY...

GZ to Astro bot... A game I would much rather play than Dragon Age: The Veilguard..
Something I would have laughed about 10 years ago, if people tried to claim I would say that.

It was fine, not my favorite game but it was good. I personally want something that will leave an impact on me and make me go "man, this game was so good I can't get it out of my head", and in 2024 I think only Tsukihime left me with that impression.
