It doesn't really look like a party game, so the fact it beat Mario Party Jamboree for the family category is a bit of a mystery to me.
It doesn't matter what I think. I didn't play it so I can't say.
What I can say is that I treat GOTY awards as something for others to care about.
The games I play are my GOTY award winners. That is all that matters to me.
I mean if you old enough to be writing in internet forums are you old enough to play age appropriate games?
Wukong looks like 16+
Astro Bot 7-10 year olds....
Come on man.
This is logically true -- because most gamers don't own a PS5 -- so it is kinda strange that it got GOTY at The Game Awards.
The people who did play it really liked it, though. So there's that.
Albeit it is one of the larger ones... But in short.. Yes.. there simply is not enough good games this year and most of the big AAA titles that had over 100m in budget are not even nominated for it.
Even a game such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard, that cost around 250m. was only nominated in the accessability catagory (something I think it would have won, but it lost.... it really lost to PoP)
Think about that.. a game that took 8 years to develop, had 250m budget, was overrly hyped.. failed miserable.. It barely sold anything (from an AAA perspective) It talked about it said as one of the most accessable AAA titles and inclusive ones.. yet did not even win that sub catagory..
We are talking about a game that downright removed spiders from the game to be more accessable, a game that dumbed down gameplay and had hand holding, so that all, no matter whom you were could play it... it had settings that made you immortal !!!!... Puzzles were just objects being highlighted and you had to click them....
Yet... no awards... not even accesability... ohh my...
But you know what they said.. It is most likely because of us "toxic" users that it failed, that is what the developers and their moderators say... gamers are the reason it failed... without us, it would have been GotY...

GZ to Astro bot... A game I would much rather play than Dragon Age: The Veilguard..
Something I would have laughed about 10 years ago, if people tried to claim I would say that.
