Why do people buy games, and not play em?

Is it just to expand their library and make em look rich? Cause people with over 500 games (mostly) haven’t played more than 400 of them.
I do understand backlogs to an extent, but why buy it not to play it? It will go on sale for cheaper next time round no?

Humblebundle and similar deals can add a huge bolster of unwanted games to your game library, esp. in the early days when you could have just paid whatever you wanted for the bundle. Like, when you can legally get a game you want for just a penny, and the catch it comes with five others free of charge, are you going to reject the deal?

Also if a game is cheap enough you might buy it on sale to play later.

I think in this day and age, everything is fast and saturated. Fast fashion, fast media and gaming as games are usually affordable to people. Our generation's attention span is less than the past so we go through games quickly despite not finishing or even starting to play them. We change our minds a lot from when we first purchased the game.
