Why did people like the Neo Geo "console?"
I got the home port of Metal Slug 3, and 6 credit limit? for Metal Slug? Who thought that would be fun? Save arcade wizards, most people wouldn't see the second level. No wonder it was $1.99 on the XBOX One. (XBOX 360 version.)

People liked it back then, because you could play actual high-end arcade games at home. Neo-Geo games were technically extremely more advanced than games on other contemporary consoles. That's pretty much it.

It was like having an arcade cabinet in your house; the offerings were limited as hell, but neither Sega nor Nintendo could get anywhere near to competing with the performance and visual fidelity of their top-flight titles.

Never had one (NES/SNES/PSX kid in the 80s/90s), because the cost was prohibitive and the software library a joke, but it was an absolute powerhouse. Just impractical as hell as an investment for home entertainment.

You had to be super-rich (200 dollars for a game, which would be 500 today...) and in the end games like Super Mario World or Legend of Zelda were stil better than anything on the Neo Geo, regardless of latters technical superiority.
People liked the Neo Geo because it provided the most authentic arcade experience at home, offering arcade-perfect graphics and sound with no compromises. Its powerful hardware produced detailed 2D sprite-based graphics with smooth animation and the system was known for its high-quality, popular games, especially fighting games. The Neo Geo also boasted features like the first console memory card save and the ability to play games in a two-player mode, which enhanced its appeal.
cause of all the cool fighting games and arcade titles!

sort of related, years ago my steam profile pic was ai from neo geo battle coliseum for quite awhile.

Dunno about the physical arcade itself but I do believe those games had the best looking sprites and aesthetics in all of gaming. Those animations and interactions are iconic.
I can understand fighting games, but limited credits on Metal Slug I can't imagine being fun.

I don't think a lot of people did like them because not a lot of people could actually afford them. The AES and CD consoles combined sold less than a million. Likely because it cost $1,552 in today's money which is more than 3x what a Genesis or SNES would have cost someone.

Sure, my preferred version of one of my top sports games of all time, 2020 Baseball, has way better music and more frames of animations in the AES or CD version. But actual game play isn't enough better than the SNES version for me to drop the extra costs on.

All Neo Geo games i recommend putting it on max speed.
I never had one, I never cared for it. BAD timing. It was a brief period with serious promotion but SEGA was able to win most over with the Sega Genesis UNTIL the SNES struck. The SNES was newer and did EVERYTHING BETTER than the GENESIS. Neo Geo had a gimmik that never won over the general consumers.

I do not, it had better processing and better graphics. The ONLY kids that would not admit SNES was better were the ones that could not afford to have both or whatever, those who were stuck with hand me down genesis or the next addition SEGA put on SALE. :steamfacepalm:
