Are you just exaggerating and being like the guy the OP described or do you honestly mean that there are few good/great games on Steam? I could understand the second since there are thousands upon thousands of games on steam.
Yep, i've met people like this. I think some people are just a-holes that like to troll others. For everyone video game there is ALWAYS one guy who is like "yeah, i beat it in like two hours, game was ♥♥♥♥". Always this guy exists who offers no real criticism beyond "i didn't like it". Honestly, i'd tell your friend to stfu and stop being a spoiled brat. I think part of the problem with, as stated above, "nooblet modern gamers" is that they've grown up in a time with amazing games and amazing graphics so their standards are set really high and nothing can reach that high, they have no frame of reference. I remember 16 bit and polygon shaped games from the late 80's early 90's and when i look back i'm shocked i was able to play them considering how great games are now! But i did, and i was happy for what i had and i had fun. Because things were poor then by today's standards, i can appreciate great games now. Kids today are too damn spoiled, they have great games, fast internet, everything on demand, etc and when it doesn't work and exist on a golden platter from the gods for them it's always "This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! ♥♥♥♥♥♥' piece of ♥♥♥♥!".
For all the people, in this thread and in general, that say graphics determines a game's quality, have some knowledge: Minecraft is a modern game with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ graphics and is one of the most popular games ever in the last 10 years. Either the millions of people who play and love it are wrong, or your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ close-minded opinions are.
You know the sales Steam has, I've gone through countless of those games. Looking them up and watching reviews. Vast majority doesn't interest me in the slightest.
I can list the games that I find that are actually good.
Dust: An Elysian tale
Risk of Rain
Dark souls 1
Devil May Cry 4
Flatout Ultimate Carnage
Guilty Gear XX #Reload
Battlefield 3 and 4.
Bad Company 2.
Those are the games I find to be really good. Dark Souls 2 isn't on the list because it messed up so much. But right now vast majority of the games I haven't bought are not worth it. They are either average or just bad.
I don't believe Minecraft have surpassed World of Warcraft or Call of Duty series in player numbers. It's the biggest Indie game out there and does better than most other games but it's not the biggest.
Minecraft though makes up for the graphics part with gameplay. A lot of gameplay.
You hadn't looked up on Warband didn't you?
As much as I like COMPUTER GAMES, not video games, they are just games with various degrees of good graphics and sound.
I've been disappointed with a lot of computer games, but rarely disappointed with console video games. That is to say I expect more from computer games, but never really expect much from a console game, as tey tend to be pretty simple in spite of a lot of flashy graphics and sound.
I knew games would take over. I loved playing primitive stuff like Atari COMBAT or Indy 500 far more that I ever liked watching movies. And table top RPGs or warsims were far more engrossing than any movie could ever be. It's unfortunate that the family prevented me from pursing my career as I wanted, because I was going to port D&D T&T, GURPS, and other games to the big screen, given the chance. GURPS / Fallout is now a TV series, D&D has had a number of B-grade flicks, and there're other examples.
My biggest gripe with computer games is a lack of continued attention to expand the games by the people who developed them. Particularly the single player games, which can be outstanding for waster a weekend afternoon.
this aged like wine with people finding being hyper critical being more fun rather than playing the game
sure, i've met people like that.
people are what they like.
its just annoiying when their passion gets ahead of them and turns them toxic,
because they think their opinion makes them better then others.
forsaking objective discussion over their preferences and turning it into ad hominem attacks upon their character.
or when they won't leave when i show them the door.
