Oh get over it man. Everyone has their own tastes and metal fans tend to be far too aggressive on their stance on who is the better band. They are just a group of guys that found some success. Let them have it. People argue that same thing over Slipknot.
Why so aggressive about a band or a genre? I hope you aren't like these kind of guys that later are "they think metalheads are like THAT or THAT snif snif, they don't know us! they're so wrong about us!". It's like you don't know how the world works; they succeeded, well, good for them.
You say that but then say Korn wasn't even metal when they were the band that brought 7-string guitars into the spot light. They had an incredibly unique sound when they first hit. Then everybody aped it and people started hating Korn. It is weird. There are thousands of bands out there and people all have different tastes. You don't have to like it. But there is no reason to whine about it either.
And Slipknots sound was not even unique. They are a decent band and they have a very talented singer. But it isn't like they invented anything.
Those two bands are actually very different. I don't like the masks and the 'hardcore' crap they pull during the shows. That does not impress me. They were definitely not the first 'shock' band and Kiss and Alice Cooper did all that crap while Slipknot were kids. The shock stuff and the masks isn't even a part of the music. And that is what is important to me. They have like 8 or 9 members in the band and it is all overblown and obnoxious to me.
The most important part of a band is the music. Everything else are gimmicks. They are definitely a decent band but they are not the greatest out there. Far from it. If you like it.... that is great. Everyone has that band they find inspirational. As I get older I am starting to appreciate more bands. There is so much great music out there. And you don't need utter chaos to enjoy it.
Does their live shows really matter whether they're chaotic or not? It isn't the first band labeled as that, really. Because if I remember well Jack Off Jill had something like that too, but as I say I don't remember well.
Well, and Haggard has I-don't-know-how-many-people in their group, so what...?
Keyboards and DJ with metal aren't anything new: Herrschaft, The Kovenant, Blood Stain Child...? Maybe they aren't the best example but I can't remember more right now. In fact if you look for some industrial metal...
Edit: And a lot of people hate Slipknot anyway, what's the point in this? And... it doesn't matter if you like them or not, they're metal. Lol.
That is exactly why I don't listen to them. They focus too much on those solos and it makes it sound like hair metal. Which I hated. The guy went and blew his voice out extremely early in their careers which is why he sounds 'whiny' in my opinion. But like I said. I just don't listen to them. I am glad they found their niche but I will just listen to other stuff.
