I would not be surprised. Passwords are not a proper way to secure accounts in 2025.

2FA should be mandatory at this point. Insane if people don't use it.

no, it was wildly overblown. it's just a bunch of not the most useful data. the worst they can do is try to pull a phishing scam on you.

still though, probably use 2FA, it's just a good precaution.

It was a fake post by an AI, valve confirmed there hasn't been any leaks.

Even if it's not a breach on Steam systems, there are several external services that Steam relies on and each one has their own security policies and practices. So it's not only Valve processing your data and personal information when you use Steam. Same goes for other sites.

Password is not sufficient enough these days to secure ANY account. Fortunately, the world is moving from passwords to passkeys and more secure ways of authenticating users.

They should become mandatory soon.

Passwords will never be replaced.

No matter what biometrics or "passphrase" nonsense people come up with, it'll never be more than a supplement to a password.

They will be replaced. Microsoft, Apple and Google are already pushing passwordless login and part of the objective in doing so is to require these in the future. Passkeys are the number one recommended way to authenticate as of right now.

You will need your phone to authenticate. Passkeys will be tied to the phone (encryption) and cannot be stolen via phising attacks or by infostealer infections.

Most people will just agree to those requirements. Minority will complain. Just like how they agreed to sites requiring most complex passwords imaginable, essentially mandating password management software.

It will happen.
