IMHO, People who waste money on bottled water instead of just a Brita filter are a bunch of pathetic chai-sipping crystal-rubbing hippies.

Unless you're in the path of the Keystone pipeline or the fracking companies. Then you have an excuse, although the money would be better spent pulling up stakes and moving the hell away from those bastards.

I don't get bottled water that often. But when I do, it's not for sipping at home. It goes in the backpack while I'm biking, in the car on roadtrips, in my office... in general, just places where I don't have water on tap readily available.

My parents, however, do drink bottled water at home. But that has to do with having well water that's hard enough to scratch diamond, and with enough sulfur to taste like rotten eggs. Bottled water is cheaper than filters considering how often they'd have to be replaced.

Ya, on the rare occasions I buy a bottled water, it's mainly because I'm somewhere where stopping to get a glass of water is not a convenient option. Or I want a bottle to carry the water while I drink it. The last bottle of water I purchased was at work a month ago. I still have the bottle sitting on my desk and I fill it up with tap water a few times a day.

Or, in the case of my parents home. Their well water is really bad, the whole area is. I fill up jugs and bottles of water from my well (which has almost perfect water) and bring it to them. They also buy cases of cheap bottled water for guests to drink when they are visiting.
I don't get the people hating on Well-water... You kinda need those minerals, why not enjoy it from natural water ?

Oh... You wanted to pay $3 a bottle for city-tap water...

Well, enjoy it.. I guess...
Who pays 3 dollars for a bottle of water? It's only one dollar for a 20 ounce bottle here... and that bottle lasts forever, can refill it as much as I want.

artificially flavored waters are known to cause some kind of cancer..
Where'd you hear that from? :P. The same people that say Ebola is going to kill us all?

No, they probably heard it from people that state artificial chemicals aren't good for you, people.... Which you know, is fake, cause your body evolved using phenlythalimide and aspertame, etc... So ya, stupid artificial chemical hooey.......

I've been drinking soda ever since I was 6. If anything was wrong with them, I would have died long ago.

Empty calories from drinks (juice, beer, soda, anything) is one of the main contributing factors to the weight issue affecting America (and, growingly, the entire developed world) these days.

I'm fine, I tend to work enough every day to burn off those calories.

You're right, every single person has the exact same body as you.. And will experience the exact same results as you...

BTW, i think people who buy expensive bottled water are silly. But chemicals you DON'T NEED to ingest, are prolly best avoided. /shrug

As long as they don't have any problems with caffeine or blood sugar levels, they should be fine drinking a soda every now and then....

I myself have developed an immunity to caffeine from so many years of ingesting it.

Actually, two different people have died of bromine poisoning from the use of brominated vegetable oil in citrus sodas. Admittedly, there were drinking upwards of 10 liters per day, but still :p

Eh, I think the lack of exercise is more important than the empty calories. I drink ~2 cans of soda/day but don't gain weight because I bike to work every day.

Is drinking a soda 'Now & then' what i was talking about ?

No... I look forward to you telling me about your Ph.D. in fitnes/nutrition/biochemistry so that you can argue something i wasn't really discussing, and excusing how much soda you drink ; Which BTW no one cares about.

BTW, it's not an immunity to caffien... It's a tolerance... You are not immune to caffien...

Whoa now, there's no need for that, i'm just trying to have a friendly conversation.
fair enough... sorry.

A combination of both, obviously. Weight gain, or loss, is a simple calculation of calories in vs calories out. A very simple way to change that balance that requires little work, some will power, and will save you money, is reducing calories in.

I went from 270 lbs to 180 lbs in 8 months. One contributing factor was a drastic reduction in calories in. A part of that was a removal of all non-water liquids. My activity level did not change much (increased a bit, but not significant amount).

There is a problem when people just increase exercise, but dont adjust their eating habits. I worked with a woman who was very heavy. And each day at work she would walk laps around the building for exercise. But then during break time she'd have two frozen corn dogs from the food vending machine. People don't seem to realize how much calories really are in some of these foods and drinks, and how little, relatively speaking, their exercises actually burn. 30 minutes of walking around the building is not going to burn off even one of those corn dogs...
