Cry of Fear man... nightmares ;w;
Well, i don't like those RUN AWAY FROM THE MONSTER games, except for Alien: Isolation.. but Amnesia f.e. is not my type of game.
F.E.A.R. is my favorite horrorgame.
Being scared is the appeal of the genre, if you're scared, the game is doing its job. That being said, they're a lot more enjoyable after you've played a few of them.
The only real way to overcome the fear of playing them is by actually playing them. If you get too tense or paranoid you can always take a short break.
If it's all jumpscares and nothing else, no.
If it actually puts effort into scaring the ♥♥♥♥ out of you, sure.
i feel like it is fun for what it is, but i agree, im about to play alien isolation sometime, and that probably be my first 'run away game" i played
Your typical "zombie apocalypse" game, while fun enough, isn't going to have that sort of effect, it requires a deep well written storyline and extremely thick atmosphere. And it only gets one chance to scare you - once you've either played it through or seen a "let's play" there's no chance at that point. This is why even horror games with replay value still don't really have replay value unless the replay value is in entirely different content (such as the various mods for Amnesia: The Dark Descent.)
I tend to pick up any horror themed games/films I find just because there may be even a few truly creepy moments in them, but the true terrifying experience is a rare find. I really appreciate a good paranormal scare when I find one, be it book, film, tv show, or videogame.
I like many horror games like Killing Floor and Dead Space. I just tend to play RPG games more than horror ones. Unless someone ever manages to make a horror RPG.
System Shock 2, Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, Secret World, Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 1 & 2, Sang Froid, and Legacy of Kain (the original on PSX) are all horror/horror themed rpgs I can think of offhand.
