Astutely put. Nothing shall stand in the way of peace™.
But most likely:
If You feel like having freedom - You most likely haven´t thought this through. The question is not to have freedom or not, but it´s about the amount of freedom, and choices. And it´s usually relative to the freedom of other people, as You can´t define when someone else has to feel free. That is a personal thing.
Inspiring, thoughtful with balance, at least for me. A question of how or who determines the level of freedom. It's meaning, it's value, it's significance in any society. Masters or examples of leadership, does not always translate to meaningful societal sentiment that is overwhelmingly accepted by all.
On the other hand you are retrospectively describing the definitive nature of any interpretation of "freedom" it means different things to different people. Unfortunately the word is not universal or at least not yet experienced or discovered on the same level for all.
But I do know that is exactly what you are saying :) Freedom is only applicable when we have boundaries, guidelines, limitations, moral value of its meaning, seems to guide us on our never ending quest for the actual understanding of freedom.
They lost real bad.
It´s way easier to take the other approach - trying to explain why freedom should be restricted. That could be done more objectively. Like "We find it rather unpleasant to get our noses broken while walking through the streets, and therefore we restrict the freedom to hurt other people. Also because we value the right of physical integrity of anybody higher than the freedom to hurt other people - as that approach makes more sense to us, as it should be about reason, not about physical strength. etc.."
And then freedom goes hand in hand with equality. It probably feels more free if people have the same chances, opportunities, choices, and rights, than if some have more rights and advantages compared to others, as these others might perhaps feel less free.
But i also see it that way that the two questions in the OP are two separate things. One fights for things which one doesn´t have - and one doesn´t give up on things, which one has.
