Ubisoft Depreciation Thread
I just wanted to tell you how much I loath Ubisoft.

I'm not even sure if I'd take their games for free, since they have developed and only further reinforced their stance on shutting down games, even singleplayer titles, in part or in full, for no good reason, without patching them to make them fully available offline or through community-sponsored services (that one Anno game being a huge exception to the rule).

Well, if you can't own anything… you know the drill.

Of course we just have to get comfortable only doubling-down on their anti-consumer practices, not them getting comfortable being in the reds, but maybe they are too comfortable with that already:

I feel sorry for the people working there, since Ubisoft has a reputation of being one of the better employers in the industry (frankly, not too difficult to be that) and it's really such a shame they'll drag down all the cultural goods they've created with them.
Yet it would be difficult to express my schadenfreude should they finally close down.

What do you even get by hating somebody or a bunch of ppl? What is the point?

If you do not like a game, just do not buy it, and boom, done, simple as that :steambored:
Raise awareness about bad practices, or even toxic practices, so people know what they are buying, so they can make the educated choice by themselves.
Essentially this @OP, also voting with our wallets are the only legal & diplomatic tools at our disposal. At least until there's some pro-consumers group that has enough political power, to change the paradigm of the modern AAA corporations & their anti-consumer behavior.

Ubisoft still in business? Wild.

Who is buying their generic shovelware?

Going by its business reports, seems like it is liquidating assets and borrowing big to stay afloat. (Page 13 of previously linked business report.)

I guess banks and investors are still buying into its ♥♥♥♥. How else would it be able to rack up almost a billion in "Long-term borrowings and other financial liabilities" over the course of just a year? Surely not by using the "pay later" option at checkout.

I wish they'd give up on the Uplay crap. I'd buy M&M X if I didn't have to make a third party account.

This is one way, but these rubbish companies operate on the principle of "there’s a sucker born every minute". Sometimes it seems like their investors have infinite resources, and that alone breaks the market economy. Especially here in the EU, we have fairly robust consumer laws for physical goods and services (like right to repair, right to subsequent fulfilment, etc.), but as soon as things get digital and online, that all goes out the window somehow.

There's really only one way to put an end to such malicious practices: Proper legislation.

Ubisoft is also looking for a buyer, yet even if there's one they might wait until Ubi goes like that oceangate titan submarine from 2023.

I suppose if ♥♥♥♥ finally hits the fan for them, they'll be bailed-out by the French government anyway. Too important for cultural projection, even though they destroy the cultural goods they create after they are done projecting.

From what I can gather on YouTube reviews, these French clowns mastered making games that check off the right boxes for people with incredibly low standards. The 2020s are the dark age for "AAA" FPS, open world, and stealth games--so we're talking very low standards.

Ubisoft games satisfy the bare-minimum. They run okay, they look good, have a passable story, they have good voice acting, have a few functional mechanics, and you can often play them for 20 or so hours with co-op, so it has some replay potential.

attention from projection.

these are the types who.

1. claim to be 'real' gamers.

2. Dont care about graphics but own a ps5 and an amazing GPU.

3. Hate UBI daily , yet.

4. Buy the next Assassin creed game, far cry, tom clancy game or the new skull and bones.

5. then proceed to hate ubi again, the launcher or both. irony at best.

6. Hate any AAA dev, just becasue its trendy, even though

7. they spent years playing WoW or Diablo or The sims, etc, etc.

8. Also they Pay for any and all DLC, season passes, loot boxes, limited edition pre-orders, then complain how AAA are ruining the industry and prices are getting crazy. again, irony.

9. Don't listen to or pay attention seriously to randos on forums seeking attention from other randos.

10. profit.

11. have fun and GL out there.

This is the best reply out of all here. I want to see each and every purchase of these people to see if they truly are genuine but that takes time and some people like OP private their profile hmpf 😤

Interesting! This at least makes sense.

Aside from Siege and the south park games, they really havent had much else going for them... Im sure ass creed is profitable, but not enough to keep that whole ship sailing.

def hear what you are saying and it would be amusing. I personally dont care enough becasue i already know the answer as do you It seems. It's all projection to fit into trends and whats being 'talked about'.

Youd go through a bunch of people who hate UBI and find UBI games

Youd hear someone talk about graphics 'not mattering' while they game on a 4k monitor with the 6000xabc NVIDIA super card and have the latest console.

youd go through someones games list who moans about AAA games ruing the industry and they have AAA games.

Same for someone who crys about dlc and prices going up and how its runing gaming and see they have mass DLC, pre-orders, season passes, skins, etc.

its beyond irony. Its insanity.

It really is the same type of thing when people preach about being 'green' and yelling at people for driving a car or using plastic for groceries.. They cant see how moronic they are when their literal entire life is fossil fuels/crude. From phones, any electronic, Bike, car, shoes, food packaging, glasses, the fuel for things they want being shipped to them from around the globe, the home they live in, clothing, it is endless.

BUT.

because its trendy and they need to parrot and be seen to project what the TV/tiktok/msm tells them to think... they cant comprehend they are literally the thing they are against and hate... rofl.

But yes I do agree with you. it would be hella amusing and you'd be floored at the hypocrisy.

If I see a game is by Ubisoft or EA, doesn't matter how good it looks, I instantly avoid it. No amount of time or money is worth putting up with their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
MancSoulja 16/fev./2024 às 23:50
It's fine OP, I can buy enough Ubisoft games for the both of us. :)
