That potato was HIS property. According to section 9:324 in book 9 of the Imperial law, Palps owns all potatoes in the galaxy and can take them at any point for any reason, especially if he plans to eat it. Did you not pay your potato tax that lets you lease "your" potato? If you did not then its his by right of law and you should be ashamed of yourself by holding his property with your dirty, Ewok hands without properly compensating him through taxes.

What has the galaxy come to when people are just so unreasonable?

Guy from Star Wars who used an alter ego to get the Trade Federation to invade his homeplanet in protest over new tax laws passed by the intergalactic vote to win a sympathy vote to become leader of that intergalactic government, later using the alter ego to secretly run the opposing side in a civil war that weakened the Jedi Order. When the Jedi found out who he was and tried to arrest him, he murdered them and framed it as the Jedi attempting to overthrow the government, allowing him to turn the government into a dictatorship and declare himself emperor.
