ok that was a bit off topic.
Except for this families personal work places, it sounds again a bit... cybercafé and for that you have bedrooms. If I have to tell something to my parents, I get up of my chair and I go to tell them or talk about things.
I don't know, what are you saying seems a bit too... organized? Even a bit robotic? At least to me.
the 'den' would be very cyber cafe like and honestly I think that kicks ass.
Bottom line is what I want to do in my home that I spent a lot of money on is be able to watch TV and play computer games and talk to my house mates (or family) at the same time. A lot of people do in fact do that, in their bedrooms but that seems to me more like a series of mini homes connected together rather than a house.
Does that make sense?
I am single so my setup is more radical. I have literally everything in the living room, the bed, the computer (computer is my TV) and my bed is also my couch
I do the second thing you've said. xD
Yeah, I guess this sounds well, I don't watch TV when I'm on my computer but I guess you can do that. I don't like to play videogames in the living room when we have guests, it seems a bit rude; but I guess you can do the set up you're saying and if you want to watch TV while talking with the family or friends is fine. You don't have to play videogames while you have guests anyway.
Well, I live with my parents and my brother so that's it. :p
Yeah, I have a TV-monitor in my bedroom though, but I don't usually watch TV in my bedroom. It's more for my videoconsoles and PC.
I use a laptop that moves around a bit, but mostly stays on my dining room table until I get a desk.
My home is and would be (if I had a family) a technology focused orgy. Namely because I spend nearly all my waking time behind one computer or another either playing a game, watching a movie or reading a book
For a month that you would consider a 'normal' month set a stop watch to record how much time you spend doing various activities. That would give me an idea of where to put what.
I think that is what I am saying overall :)
And well, I don't know if I'm being a bit off-topic right now so... it it's like that I'll stop here.
i really doubt that valve's plan is to put everyone in the living room at the same time for the sole purpose of verifying your belief that one's computer should be in the living room
let me ask you something
why, why, why in the name of all that is good, why would you play that atrocity, one of the poorest excuses for a duke nukem game?

So yeah...PC in the living room

not to disrespect gabe, but to be honest he probably doesn't give a damn where people have their computers
valve wouldn't have done the big picture project/steam machines if they didn't believe there was an audience (and therefore money) for it
besides, i don't think your mother wants to see you riding elephants while shooting down a bunch of asian people or playing cash cow 5000: advanced borefare
and i feel like if somebody's trying to watch TV at the same time as that it would just get annoying, and granted you can put in headphones i feel like a lot of people would prefer their nice surround sound speakers
