As a blu-ray player, sure.

For gaming, only if it's a first-gen with backwards compatability.
It's not worth it at that price. Does it include games and controllers etc?

I'd say it's worth for playing old games from ps1 with psn,ps+ and backwards compatibility and playstation does have good games.

If your a 9 year old with your very own 42 inch tv in your bedroom, in need of a bluray player, go for it! It might also keep you innocent from discovering the dirty side of the internet for another year or so to come.

Ive had a ps3 for 6 years, i still play it, so its worth it, many games are cheap now. My local GameStop sells most of the ps3 games for $5-$25

Till at least 2015...

Sony, has officially pledged to "support" the PS3 into 2015. After that, they are free to discontinue updates/services at any time they choice.

every 18 months computer power doubles. (consoles are not PCs but they are computers). PS3 was released 9 years ago, the same year New Horrozions Spacecraft was launched

Then it seems a bit late, doesn't change my mind though.

it means the current generation of consoles CONSIDERABLY more powerful than the PS3 and PCs even more so.

Understand if you buy a PS3 you are buying technology that existed before smart phones
It means you should collect it as a collector of antiquities to show your children's children of stoneage technology, which could be worth millions in 10-30 years time (if still good working nick).

Just imagine, having the last known console - without US government spyware built into it.

Also, a well known fact: The US Department of Defense purchased over 2,200 PS3s to upgrade, for the use of their airforce. It is possible they could turn each one into a scud missile, using the famous PS3 chipset as a missile controller for their terrorism.

(Fact of the day - PS3 microchip can be turned into a warfare device, even the US military does it)

Are you saying that becuse the ps3 tech is older the system will have problems easily and will be harder to work with?

Moore's Law states that the number of transistors that could be fitted on an integrated circuit doubles every eighteen months or two years, more transistors do not make computers more "powerful" alone.
