Need help with WASD + Shift
So yesterday i was playing Farcry 4 just fine. I ended up exiting and taking a nap. When i went to go play it again, i started noticing that when i'm moving forward, and i press shift to run my Character stops moving. So i went to notepad and tried holding w and then pressing shift. Sure enough it would stop typing. Frustated i pulled out a diffrent keyboard and tried that. Still same problem. I then proceeded to try turning of sticky keys, reinstaling firmware for my keyboard, even completley reinstalling windows. Still have the same problem. Will i just never be able to play games with a mouse and keyboard again. Any help would be very much appretiated. I have the Corsair Vengence K70.

Have you turned off ALL of those keyboard accessibility functions?

This is a weird problem, yet seems slightly familiar. I'm just not sure what would be causing that.

Hmm, it could be a polling problem on the USB port, or the ports are just going bad.

Is it just shift that causes this? Is it only in conjunction with the "W" key?

I hate to bring it up, and don't stop looking for other solutions but, you might need to buy a new USB card. At least they aren't expensive.

Don't take my word for it though. That might not be the best fix.

Thanks for trying, instead of just spamming GG and HF like the other posters in my other thread.

We aren't all totally useless here :)

I would suggest trying a different discussion area, or a different forum altogether; one that focuses on tech problems. You'll probably run into more knowledgeable folks.
I imagine Steam OT is one of the worst places to ask :D

Holding W and then pressing shift in notepad and the typing stops is normal. When you're in game are you pressing several keys at once? The only thing I can think of off hand is you're exceeding the rollover threshold, assuming that's a mechanical KB. If it does it even when those are the only 2 keys pressed then I'd contact Corsair and see what they say about it. Maybe an RMA is needed. What is the other keyboard that you tried?

A temp fix could be to change the option from holding shift to run to toggle shift to run...if that option exists in the settings.

Oh maybe ill wait until i have a game downloaded and ill try that. I was using notepad as a testbed, so if that is true, all my data is false. It could very well be fixed. Also my keyboard has a 104 key rollover. I tried another k70, and then also a cheap razer keyboard that came with my computer.

Have you tried other game where you run with shift? because i have the same problem in far cry 4 that everytime i start running, sometimes it stops immediatly i press shift and sometimes i can run a while then it does it. And sometimes it does it even without running :D But in all other games i tried where the character runs with shift, it works normally..

remap the wasd to esdf

esdf is better, it gives your little ginger so many other buttons to reach and I can still stretch out to hit all the edge buttons.

Hey thanks for all the help! I actually just wiped my computer and reinstalled everything "It needed it anyways" and that seemed to fix it. Again thanks to everyone who actually tried to help and didn't just respond GG and HF. :)
