To be honest, I really have no clue, generaly though I define them as people who buy and use certain items to form who they are in the puplic eye, rather then buy and use items according to their own already existing itdentity, and generally these items are either not very popular or not very well known. Again though, I really am not sure of the actual definition, this is just something I came up with after casual observations, and research.

No, hipsters are more like a minor social/visual nuisance. Over the years I've had to deal with various members of the scum of society, and not one of them fit the hipster description at all.

Hipsters today remind me of the poetry reading, black clothes wearing weirdos of the 60's.
So, it's not really all that hip, unless you calculate the generational return, of which they weren't a part.
They are reliving their parent's lives.

I suppose opening a book and reading about where the world has already been is too mainstream as well.

To me hipsters are gamers who are rather "snobbish" in their attitude.
For example the guys at Giantbomb, Gamespot, Polaris, Rev3 and IGN are all hipsters to me.

People I don't see as hipsters include Jason at MetalJesusRocks, Matt Barton, Clint at Lazy Game Reviews, Mark at Classic Game Room etc.
