This happens to me sometimes as well, i did many things to fix it, though i dont know which helped and which didnt.
-I deleted some game data.
-I reset the system.
-I did a rebuild where it would delete all my messages and reset my PSN until i reset it.
Tried any of that?
Well, I would if I could even get to the dash board.... as soon as I start the system, it wants to update instantly and that's what that guide was for.
Disconnect it from the internet then do what you have to.
It could be a number of things corrupted files being one. Also notice that the built in Wi-Fi on any PS3 is horrible. It's better to use wired internet.
It was never connected to the internet in the forst place. I can't even get that far. It instantly goes to a faulty update
