Why do people want to be "YouTube famous"?
I've always wondered this. Why do people want to be "famous" on YouTube? Because if you've been on Off Topic or any other forum for a while you'll see a few "Hey guys, check out my channel thx :DDD" threads pop up every now and then. Often times these videos are really low quality, or pewdiepie wannabes

If I wanted to get paid to play games, I'd move to Korea and play Starcraft for a living rather then advertise my YouTube channel for years and never break 10 views.

Anyways, I'd love to hear some opinions about this.

These 2 things are correct.

I don't find sitting on my ass and taking money from people using me as an advertising tool counts as a good way to make money. You do need SOME sunlight and social interaction to be healthy. But more power to them, I find it odd. If I am going to be famous I want to be famous for my talents, not making funny faces and yelping while I play a game that someone else made.

Most people earn way too less money. The only people with a good payment own a million subs and plus. All the other claiming they have money is mostly a lie.

People should get a real job. Also streamers, if some claim to do this full-time, they should consider doing a real job... I had the chance, i still have but with my future job i can't show myself like i want.

Like you said yourself you have to have millions and the op specifically said why some one would want to be ''youtube famous'' so thats the reason i wrote that i know you don't earn enought money from a small youtube group.
CatPerson 15 ENE 2015 a las 10:22 a. m.
Yeah...for most, at best it's supplemental income, not their full-time job. Even if you get a surge of popular and make more for a while, most of the time it'll fall back down and you'll make less. If your videos aren't getting 1000's of views (maybe 100's of 1000's) all the time, not going to be a huge money maker on the ads alone (if you get ad sponsors, may be different). But not many reach that stage.

As to the OP's question .... well, why does anyone want to get fame? Influence,
money, maybe a personality that likes attention, etc. Sometimes for YouTuber's tho, it's not so much wanting "fame" as wanting to feel like the work they're putting into it is at least being seen by someone...otherwise why do it at all.

You do realise gaming isn't the only thing on youtube? It seems like most people are jealous that they didn't hop on the youtube bandwagon a few years ago since it's impossible to do so now.

For example, the Angry Video Game Nerd. James Rofles videos aren't the silly twice a day videos you get from putridpew or whatever, his videos are like a show. Alot of production goes into them (for an indie filmmaker that is) and I don't see how you feel that just because they make money from having their shows on a different form of media distribution doesn't mean they don't get sunlight.

I can't imagine that playing games for a living making silly comedical videos could take up take up that much time. Some youtubers say lots of editing goes into them which is a lie. You could play a game for an hour a day and still have enough video to create two 10-15 minute videos.

I don't care to be some kids role model. They could learn a lot more from an athlete and or non pedophile scout teacher

Exactly, and to show my non-existing support i have probably subscribed to 5 channels and 3 of them are from CDPR and 2 Electro/Dance channels.

I think most YouTubers aren't good for todays kids. (sure TV isn't great either)

Reporting or doing some kind of journalistic work is one thing. But playing a video game for an audiences amusement hardly counts as work. Do you enjoy watching someone watch a football game and making funny faces and being strange? I don't.. You actually need to do something productive with your time in the world. Not just record yourself consuming some type of media. How is that fulfilling? It isn't. People should want to make their own marks on the world and develop their own talents.

If someone has figured out a way to make enough money to live on doing something they enjoy doing, more power to them. Who cares if it's "real work" or not? If you don't want to do that type of "work" because you think it's not productive or "real" or fullfilling, great. Don't do it.

Don't see a reason to denigrate/put down people who may enjoy doing such and have discovered they can, at least for the moment, make some cash too. Different strokes.

I already said more power to them. Literally, I said just that. Scroll up. But I am not going to mince my words.
