Nah, Kurt wouldn't put himself up there with the all time greats but that is just because that was how he was. He was nowhere close to being arrogant enough to do something like that. You have to remember that all of the songwriting in Nirvana was done by Cobain. Everyone else was forming their lines around the skeletons he wrote. Nirvana's music was a group effort but the whole thing was his brain child.
Grohl is in the master mind of The Foo Fighters...completely different band. While they are great I don't think they reach the same highs as Nirvana did.
Nirvana isn't big because Cobain died. They were massive while he was alive and during the period of the groups activity. Nirvana was just that big of a deal. So yea, I can easily say Cobain is one of the greats.
Glam was on its death bed by the mid 90's because Nirvana killed it lol. Nirvana was already done by the mid 90's. Hendrix was better than Elvis though, Elvis couldn't begin to hope to be nearly the guitar player Hendrix was.
Lennon was by far the best piece of the Beatles in my opinion though. Mccartney was too focused on the Pop approach and he didn't have the creativity Lennon had.
I don't rate the Foo Fighters at all. They really are just a middle of the road rock band and there are dozens of bands more successful and relevant. Grohl is a talented musician but he doesn't have the creativity or vision to be great. Cobain really was everything.
There are singers and then their are entertainers. All three of them are entertainers.
Well said, and i get it now.I really wonder what would be the next breakthrough band/ movement that will shake things up. Where is the direction now? Foo Fighters is 1 of the few i still listen to, but we need something new and fresh. Hasn't everything been done before? What's next for Rock/Alternative? That thought depresses me. Sorry to go off topic sorta but that's my lingering question. What or who, will be the NEXT big thing?
That is still yet to be seen. Nobody expected Nirvana to be the next great band...they just...happened. And they hit like a damn sledge hammer.
One day a new band will do the same thing. The direction right now is stripped down clean sounding 'elevator rock'. And I cannot wait until another heavy band tears that ♥♥♥♥ down too. It alternates with the times.... sooner or later a high energy band will hit again.
^^^ AMEN. These are the dark ages. Nothing ever last anyway. Once something new comes along they will suck everything out of it until they can't anymore and move onto the next. the wheel keeps on turning.....
I think the point was more who was the most influential singer rather than who has the greatest sounding voice. I mean, how do you even gauge who's voice is better than the other? I know range and all that but I mean, that is very subjective.
By the way, Lennon's personal qualities have nothing to do with his talents as a singer.
Anyway, those other singers you listed are definitely talented as well. I think you just took it to a new level of detail that the OP might not have been looking for lol.
Look how amazing he sings and plays a guitar at the same time, without the need of any auto tune or any sort of enhancement. He was like just sitting on a couch dude rocking that tune ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. He wasn't even trying how did we lose these great legends they are all gone.
What an incredible man Bob Marley was. Never have there been another reggae star like Bob
I know right? it's sad now. Everything nowadays is polished up to perfection which makes it lose value. People need to be more real. When you look at that video and see him Bob playing you say "hey, he is a person just like me, he is a down to earth human being." Now it all has to be commercialized b.s. with overproduced nonsense. We lose great talents too soon.
No offense but that scares me. The thought that most people as years go by won't remember some of the most important influences in music. Not that you have to like them, but just not even knowing who they are D: Oh well, I'd recommend you at least try to know them better if you are into music. Just a suggestion. Unless this is troll bait then, niiiice.
