Venom's New Look (Guardians Of The Galaxy #23)
WARNING: This discussion will have spoilers for the latest issue of Guardians of the Galaxy, for this reason aside from a breif synopsis I'll be blacking out the story plot points I mention if you will be reading it later but want to see the new design.

In the latest guardians of the Galaxy comic the backstory to the Venom Symbiote was heavily fleshed out when the Guardians visit Venom's Home planet.

Spoilers below this point.
When they arrive the Venom species bonds with the team and reveals to them that they are called "The Klyntar": a Symbian Race that sends out organisms to help various people across the galaxy and bond with suitable heroes, When the bonding between host and symbite goes wrong the symbiotes malfunction and become monsters instead like Venom and Carnage, The Klytar then heal Venom and restore his genetics for his bond with Flash Thompson (Agent Venom).

This is quite a large change from what was there before and I'm looking forwards to see what they do with it but I'd like to hear what you al think of this new change.

Ps: There is also an interview here that's worth reading http://marvel.com/news/comics/23960/an_exclusive_look_at_venoms_all-new_costume

In other words, Brian Michael Bendis ignores everything previously established about the planet of the symbiotes and does whatever the hell he wants.

Well the thing is that Venom's been a Hero in the Marvel Universe for quite some time now and they've been building up the Symbiote mystery for a little while and it would make no sense if he suddenly made him bad again, If you want your mindless killing Symbiote you still have Carnage, That's my view on it anyway.

That wasn't my point. Bendis is ignoring and retconning what previous writers did in regards to the backstory of the symbiotes themselves.

Well I suppose that won't matter much since they are killing off the original 1961 Marvel Universe as well as the Ultimate one, Timelines are going to go all wonky pretty soon retconning and outright replacing a lot of things when they launch the new "Battleworld" continuity.

Only for Secret Wars. I expect that after the event is over the "new but not rebooted" Marvel Universe will look a lot like the 616 with an added Mile Morales.

Well I don't know what will happen in this re-shuffle but you can bet i'll be at the comic stores like everyone else reading it to find out the answer, We might even see Gwen Stacy in the new continuity for all we know.
