There's kinda a long history of the Team Fortress game... It started as a mod for Quake, when Quake 2 came out they were gonna make Team Fortress 2 as a mod, but Valve hired the guys who made the Quake mod to create Team Fortress Classic. Some years passed and then Valve had an idea to make Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms, a military style game. But this idea was dropped. Then in a hacked version of Half-Life 2 someone found code for a game called Team Fortress 2: Invasion. After the real Half-Life 2 came out someone made a mod for it called Fortress Forever, a higher quality version of Team Fortress Classic. Few more years passed then now we have Team Fortress 2, the game we all know and love. I'm kinda a big fan of the Team Fortress games. :)

Yeah it was good back in the day, now we have this ugly cartoon cosmetic trading simulator instead.
Also the community was much more mature and respectful too, as was the community with the Half Life Deathmatch games

That is actually the second one, the first was Quake Fortress.

He did however ask if it there was a first Team Fortress. Team Fortress Classic would fall under the First Team Fortress game. Since it having the name Team Fortress in it.

Since the Team Fortress Classic mercs (and traitorous Red Medic) showed up in the TF2 comic, I wonder if there's any renewed interest.
