tobey maguire is the worst peter parker
i remember watching the spiderman animated series on tv as a kid, and peter parker was really cool and sarcastic, prett buff too, totally not a pushover although being a science nerd.

then toby maguire comes along and just totally ruins spiderman forever for everyone.

all i gotta say is

Tobey Maguire is just a bad actor all together. I never understood why he got so many roles in the early 2000s. Same with Jake Gyllenhaal.

yes, i agree, i don't think i've seen a lot of both of them, but he is so cringy and unlikeable in Spiderman. i just want things to go bad for peter parker in those movies, you know?

I actually enjoyed andrew garfield playing Peter Parker in the reboot series. I think he captured him a lot better than Tobey. And now they're rebooting it AGAIN, and they're considering that kids from Ender's Game to be him. Too young imo.

yeah, i liked andrew garfield as well, at least he made snarky comments as spiderman all the time. he reminded me way more of the spiderman i saw in the animated series (i haven't read the comics!)

Yeah, that bit is really weird, isn't it! But you see, before he gets bitten and becomes Spiderman, he's an introverted nerd, maybe even somewhat autistic, and when he gets his powers he becomes confident, but he's still a nerd, and throughout the swagger along the street the girls all react badly to him and avoid him. and I think that's the point that the director Sam Raimi was making - he's not a superhero immediately, he gradually learns to adjust.

It's not how many other directors would do it, but I think Raimi wanted to emphasize the bad flaws in Peter Parker's personality, so he emphasized that Parker becomes an obnoxious creep, before he gradually adjusts and becomes a real superhero.
well okay, i took the absolute worst clip in the movie (it's VERY difficult to watch, honestly). but i just think he was a bad Peter Parker from the start, i mean he could've at least become a bit more sassy after the transformation into Spiderman, but he jjust gets creepier and creepier. he reminds me of a lot of self declared 'nice guys', all that's missing is a fedora tbh

Except...Tobey Macguire is far from a nice guy. He can actually be kind of a ♥♥♥♥. I have heard many reports of him being rude to fans who, say, ask for an autograph. Something about the guy strikes me as off. I guess that is it.

yeah, i think Kirsten really didn't like to play with him either. a lot of self-declared nice people are actually ♥♥♥♥♥. he does come over as a jerk.
