The game is trash. Bohemia interactive is just an ok developer. ArmA is not really all that great. Unique sure, but far from spectacular. I'd argue bohemia has never developed a great game.
And no it doesn't take 6 years to make a fallout game. Bethesda stated right after they finished skyrim they were moving on to the next big game, which is likely fallout 4. That was in 2012 after the last dlc release. It is very likely their next major title will be announced at this years E3 and it will likely be fallout. They also tend to release their games not that long after announcement. Skyrim released only 11 months after its reveal, something that almost never happens for any other game. That puts their next game on 3 years of heavy development roughly. Say add 12 months between announcement and its release will likely have taken about 4 years to develop. Dayz on the other hand, also started in 2012, it certainly will not be finshed this year, and its only on build 0.54 I think, at this rate it wont be finished in 2016 either. Not to mention they are porting it to console, which is not a bad thing but is even more work. So best case scenario Dayz sees full release in 2017, maybe even later. It doesn't help that dean hall, who no longer runs Dayz stated it would see full release in 2013 either. It will likely be pretty bad too, unless they miraclulously overhaul everything in the game from .54 to beta and beyond.
For a game a lot less complex than fallout it sure is gonna take a lot longer to make. Also if you do know anything about coding then you would obviously know building an enviornment from scratch is a lot more difficult than taking the enviornment from ArmA 2 and dayz mod and using it for Dayz standalone. Of course its more complex then say, right clicking your mouse and hitting copy, but it is far simpler than creating a new wholly unique environment. Almost none of Dayz standalone's environment was designed, and created from the ground up. If they were making the map from scratch there probably wouldn't even be an alpha becuase it wouldn't be finished yet. It takes them like anywhere from 2-6 months just to make new firearms.
What it comes down to is that the devs on Dayz simply are not as good as those in other companies. Why people have this assumption that all game developers are equally good at their jobs baffles me. Not all developers are as talented as each other. In fact some are downright terrible. I also don't know why people have this blind spot for bohemia, they are not bad developers but they aren't great either. They have made some good games that fill a specific niche but nothing incredible. Why people don't realize that they are not amazing devs I don't know. A better dveloper would have finished this game already. Sure I couldn't do any better, I don't make videogames. But I sure as hell can compare them to their peers.
With that said Dayz certainly has a novelty and unique aspects to it. I would not have played 277 hours on a game I dislike. I do like Dayz but I also recognize it is utter garbage, and likely always will be. Sometimes you can just tell how a game will turn out.
Or get Rust... wasn't that the game that got abandoned by its creator? Or get DayZ, the game that charges you now money for the same gameplay as its completely free Mod.
You know... maybe you should just hold off of them, until they are.. you know.. done and released.
Here's why.
Day Z is horribly unoptimized. You'll get an fps of of 10-20 unless you've got some godly rig.
Rust keeps changing direction. It was almost finished, then they scrapped everything and started anew.
H1Z1 is just a cash grab. From what I've read, you cannot craft weapons, and need to rely on an air drop system to get the better gear and weapons. That costs money too apparently.
Little misinformed there. I would write you a paragraph but it would be much easier for you to google.
What the heck, I'll do a little good for the gaming comunity.
First things first, airdrops are not P2W. They do not give anyone any advantage. Or rather, they give the entire server an advantage of obtaing the goods in the drop itself. Nobody uses them, because they are so un-P2W it's pretty much calling for ten guys to murder you. And then, if you even get the loot, nine out of ten times, you get a gun. If the average airdrop attract five players, that is a 2% chance that you will get a gun. You do not get an advantage from calling the drop itself. The person next to you has the same chance as getting it as you do.
You litterally need to get a gun to be able to compete in these things in the first place. I serriously think they need to put more weapons in the drops. Right now, it's suicide, for almost nothing. Easier just to search for the gun itself. That is the only flaw I see in the system.
The reason why people thought that airdrops were pay to win was because of a single bug at launch. A streamer brought an airdrop and it fell right on top of him. Needless to say, that is not supposed to happen. The bug was fixed a few days laters, along with a wipe. As far as I know, no one still mentions this incident.
So there, H1Z1, NOT P2W. I thought all the misconceptions about this game was gone, but I guess I was wrong. It's really the most promising out of all of these games. Trust me, no cash grab here. I regulary follow these guys. Really one of the most open development studio I have ever seen.
Crap, I'm done rambling now.
When it was first released, people in the reviews were complaining that the airdrops were payed. I haven't played it, but I am basing my opinion off what I've seen and read.
Get Rust if you wanted finished game but the dev already left the project.
Go with the majority then. But seriously.. spending money on H1Z1 is kinda stupid.. its a F2P game.. that will only cost you money during its Alpha/Beta period. You quite literally pay them money to do their bug testing.
