The reason they hate light is that since they were all killed by the dragons, they remember the blinding flash before the end, reminding them of their pain, and humanity. But the thirst for flesh will sometimes overcome this desire, and they will run straight through fire to catch their prey, and they will run off cliffs due to being blinded by bloodlust (See the portion of the game where they fall into the center of the earth via tracking you by a straight line). The human skeltons are of a darker origin, they come from the same source as the dragons themselves, Satan. (Example, how many dragons are there at hell? Very few, showing their reverance of the dark lord.) The greator majority of skeltons can only arise underground, showing that they to have a connection to hell itself. And thus have a hate of light, which reminds them of their days above ground.
Finally, the story of the players:
In the midst of this combat and desolation, the military had a sudden breakthrough! Utilizing the bones of slain dragons, they created an immortality device of their own, one that would save both the occupant and their clothing, while unable to save anything not directly attached to the player's person. (This is endurance mode and hardcore mode, where the majority of the story takes place) To create this tower, many dragons were slain by RPGs among other weapons of destruction. (Dragon endurance mode) Though essentially all the military was destroyed in this effort, they managed to save humanity, and made a lighthouse for lost souls. Where all humans who died after its creation would revive, and be able to continue to search for a way to stop the dragonopolise. Many of these remaining humans were only civilians, but they would have time to learn, enough time, all the time in the world... For they can never truly die, they're killed day after day, going a little bit more insane, which creates...
The aliens: -
The reason for the more difficult to kill zombies is due in part to the desolation of the area. Think about it for a moment, why does the most difficult region of the game flow with diamonds and gold? Because that is where the majority of cities were!! And the reason the zombies are so hard to kill is because there would have been plenty of armor for the defense of cities. Though some may be weaker or stronger, most people in the cities had some form of armor. The ones in the center were essentially in juggernaut suits, though the zombies intermingled across the continent, most of the well armored ones stayed near the ruined cities.
Another reason for their great phisical resitance is that the military tried to halt the zombie/dragon/satan advance with "Tactical" nukes. These nukes through radiation inadvertantly caused a reaction inside of the zombies who were infected by dragons, and their minds and bodies broke into new levels of chaos. Allowing them to remain in the world longer before regenerating, and to be able to climb through soft metals (Excluding gold). Coupled with the scattered body armor, this populace is extraordinarily strong.
Now you may ask, well, why don't I see any buildings? Well, the answer is easily apparent my pupil, just how long do you think this battle has been going on, for trees to regrown in irradiated enviroments
You are stuck here, forever bound by the cursed tower, unable to escape. Forced to build, fight, and hold off the zombie hoards, with absolutely no rest whatsoever. For all of time, you are stuck killing them, the same zombies again and again. For a tower made out of dragon bones is indestructible, and shall not fall. Perhaps this is what the dragons wanted from the very start, but that doesn't matter, for this, is...
