What is 360 Total Security?

It just randomly installed itself on my computer, it doesn't have a uninstall option, but it isn't doing anything and norton 360 won't open.

What exactly is it?

Malware? Virus? Spyware?

My bets on the latter.

Unless your using XP nothing can install itself onto your computer without first asking you for permissoin, it can however be included intentionally or not in some other program you downloaded. I mention XP becuase its dead simple to make viruses for, it came from a simpler time when windows did not ask the user for anything, programmers would command windows to do things instead of the more modern"Ask stupid windows to do something and hope to god that it actually does it". Also on furthur note we programmers have been working around windows mistakes since win95.

You might have an infection that normal AntiVirus products cannot pick up.

Try GFI or VIPRE AntiVirus, it does a good job of disinfecting Steam machines:

Also, don't run so many background tasks, use Task Manager and see how many processes are running under the Processes tab. In the bottom left corner of the task bar.

If it is over say 64 to 80 processes then you might want to terminate a few and set them not to start or load at boot-up.

360 Total Security, at least the real one, is an anti virus software, a freeware. But that one doesn't install itself on its own.

You are one serious joker. Do you share your PC with someone? Could they have installed it?

And if you don't share your PC with someone, what did you install that possibly came with it? Stuff doesn't randomly install itself on your PC.

In order to install 360 Total Security you have to accept several licenses and stuff. So someone must have installed it.

According to that review its a 17 MB installer... i have a hard time believing it just magically appeared on your system without you doing anything. That being said...

It could be a trojan horse version of 360 Total Security too. like an imitation virus.

You probably downloaded somthing else and in the progress of clicking next/acccept/install, one of the pages asked if you wanted to also install this random program and you didn't pay attention and forgot to untick the box saying "Yes, also install this program".

Remember installing anything around the same time this new program appeared?

It's 99.9999 percent that's its a malware. Programs that doesn't contain malware/virus etc would seek your permission, it would let you access other programs and it always should have an uninstall option.

All you need to do is take actions before it's too late. If you're using windows.

Go to control panel and select manage programs. Uninstall the program from there and it should be completely terminated from your computer except for the virus.

Start a security check in this case Norton. It should detect the virus, delete it.

same thing happened to me after I donwloaded Memu. Shut my pc down. The next day, 360 security appeared for no reason.

however, whatever it is, only a complete fresh and clean install of your OS helps .. !! delete everything! EVERYTHING !!

Reformat/reinstall a fresh and clean W10/W11:

1. Plugin your USB with Windows 10/11 install media
   
2. Keep your correct IRST drivers ready inside an extra folder, to be save ..
   
3. Open Windows Start menu
   
4. Restart your PC while holding the Shift key to boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). Once in the Windows Recovery Environment, choose to boot from the USB drive.

Once your drives and partitions are ALL deleted & formatted in setup, continue..

During later stage of fresh install, @ Language Selection

1. cut LAN/WLAN
   
2. "Shift + F10" to open console
   
3. type:

   oobe\bypassnro

4. auto-reboots
   
5. select:

   "I don't have internet"
   "Continue with limited setup"

6. Install your "LOCAL ACCOUNT" and disable all telemetry stuff during setup
   >> Profit

Later you can even setup a PIN in Windows Options without being online/Microsoft account, and if you like - and I suggest it - uninstall Windows OneDrive straight after you enter your freshly installed Windows and disable UAC (User Account Control)!! Afterwards let your machine connect to the internet and use Windows Update and Microsoft Store Apps update.

If updates are done, install AntiVir as "ESET Premium" and "Mozilla Firefox + uBlock Origin" (by Raymond Hill). Then search for more and specific drivers manually, as latest NVIDIA drivers, more special Chipset drivers, latest BIOS firmware, etc ..
