My eyesight is getting poor
Recently I have noticed that sometimes when I play TF2 I have to squint to see the enemy, or even mistake an RED team member for BLU because the colors don't register with me right away, any other gamers with poor eyesight? I'm kind of nervous about getting glasses or contacts because of how spendy they can be and how easy they are to break/lose...I need comfort :c

I'm blind in one eye and i need a contact for the other one.
Contacts are really hard to lose, kinda expensive but really comfy when you get used to them.
Normal glasses are durable and if you lose things easily you can use a cordon for them.
I really suggest you to get one of those. Playing when your eyesight is already damaged without them will only make it worse.

Looking at a screen from a foot away for a long duration causes a lot people to become near sighted, 4 out of 5 people in my computer science courses have glasses and im sure alot more of them where contacts. Its only natural for your eyes to become a customed to being focused on objects close up, my eyes have been bad for a while but i only started wearing glasses a year and a half ago and let me tell you it is a night and day difference having them. The first thing i noticed is that things started to actually have textures and things in the distance no longer looked like fuzzy blobs. A word of advice if you do need glasses to aid you in seeing at all just wear them all the time, if you dont you will always forget to put them on and you wont be able to see things. It also wont feel natural having them on, after a few weeks of wearing them you get used to them and you no longer feel them on your face.

Pretty much everyone gets them eventually. Remember when the doc said "let's just put a little bit on the top here to sharpen it up a bit"... and it did.

Bifocals it is.

As someone with eye problems since birth, I think glasses are completely fine. Don't be nervous about getting them replaced often, at least I don't. (Though that's another matter if you lose them!) After you get some, it become second nature to have them on so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Many years ago, I used to wear glasses due to being cross-eyed on top of being far-sighted. I outgrew them and I hoped to never have to wear glasses again. Fast forward a few years and I had to get glasses again due to my eyes not wanting to focus on stuff up close. Not good when you are a mechanic or an inspector like I am now. I have to be able to see a 1/32" thick line for the kind of work I do. I have to wear glasses again, even though I would rather not and to make things worse, I have to wear tri-focals. Ouch.

Do your eyes a favor and go see the optometrist and get your eyes checked, you will appreciate being able to see clear again.

Most eye problems can be cured these days but more serious ones might cost few hundred thousands dollars.

Lens implants are becoming more popular and safer as well as other well known surgical procedures so if you do need to get something done later on it'll probably be more affordable. I suggest glasses until you can get something more comfortable instead of contacts as contacts strain your eyes more if you're sensitive and dry them out eventually. If you're still in school and would rather not wear glasses, get glasses and contacts so you have backup for when you're home etc. I don't like that I can't wear VR gear with my glasses so that's a bummer but most of the time it's nothing I even notice as I'm accustomed to it now. Take care of your eyes and let them rest but don't worry too much that you're "going blind". I used to be like that 15 years ago and I'm fine (eyesight got a tiny bit worse but stopped at a certain point). :) But remember to get a prescription for your eyes sooner rather than later as squinting and not wearing any glasses/contacts will not help.

honestly with glasses you just get used to them and you forget you are even wearing them.

How often have you lost your keys? Glasses are like that. Usually you don't lose them, because of how expensive and important they are.

If you are worried about dropping them, you can get some band for them. Carry a hardcase around with you, which might be something to get use to at first, but once you are, you'll always have your glasses with you.

Make a habbit of putting them into the case, right when you take them off, and you will never crush them.

Properly fitted glasses also don't require you to have a band around your glasses, but if you want to, you could consider buying thin fishing line or polyester thread in your hair color. Its virtually invisible, if you are worried about that.

Bottom line... exercise some care and you won't have any problems with your glasses.
