Shadow Warrior has a demo, and its pretty good too.
Dino D-Day is fun, and different because dinosaurs.
Try some of these and see how they fit for you, and whenever there is a free weekend of something, try it even if you dont care. I tried interstellar marines this week and actually quite liked it.
I'm not surprised if you've already left this thread though, so I don't know why I bothered.
* search for reviews
* read the longer reviews that actually talk about what was good or wasn't good in a game
* don't buy games right when they come out
* ask yourself what you want in a game and try to find that more specifically
I could paste some of my own recommendations, but they'll probably be useless if they're not your tastes. So,...
What do you want in a game?
I don't play everything through steam. You think I'm gonna rebuy the same games over and over again just because they get a steam release.
@fenrir
Played them all. Free weekends come once ina blue moon.
@calcium
I just want a game that isn't crap. Every single FPS is cookie cutter, RTS is extinct, and Mobas don't itnerest me.
There wouldn't be so much people playing an obscue game compared to an already mass populated game with a solid community. Why would the devs make an unusual game and risk not many people buying it when they could just dish out the same ♥♥♥♥ that guarantee revenue?
Time for an entirely different topic:
Is "To The Moon" really a game, though?
Ah..You've got me there. If there's a challenge (a way to lose, in some fashion) Then it's not a game. TTM is a story that goes at your pace, since you have to move and talk to people. I don't believe you can actually lose the game.
Though I noticed that you have Recettear already -- you may want to try
In fact, I noticed that you have the whole Steam Indie Story Pack, and I suggest you check out Puzzle Agent when you're bored. It starts off like a standard little puzzle game, but this is Telltale Games who developed that, and they certainly don't disappoint. I won't spoil it.
And it seems you have, but haven't yet played, Portal. It's not that long, it's rather creative, it's well-regarded, and you should definitely just play through it for the experience. I'd recommend playing it before playing Portal 2.
