Why do people hate wasps?
Why do people hate wasps? People are always like "bees rule wasps drule". There is no reason to hate bees, but wasps arent all that bad either. First of all, many wasps DO pollenate flowers. They also control crop pests like locusts. Not to mention they, like all other species, keep the food chain in balance. Also when I caught a wasp and released, it just flew away it did not sting me. Also only honeybees die when they sting not other types of bees. Wasps don't make honey but that is not reason to hate them with a passion. Wasps are just a little more agressive, that's all. So what do you think?

"Wasps are just a little more agressive, that's all." That might have something to do with it regardless if it stung you or not. Not saying I hate bees or wasp, but It's best not to take that chance. I have never been stung before and I plan on keeping it that way.

Bee's can only sting once and die from the detachment of their stinger.

Wasps can sting multiple times and not loose their stinger doing so.

Exactly my reason. But, if you just act natural, like you never saw them, they'll fly away. Or into your ear at a family reunion when you're 9 years old. Happened to me. It stung the inside of my ear. Hurt for a year.

Did you not read the post. Only honeybees and no other bees loose their stinger.

They aren't actually that bad for farmers. They eat pest insects and keep farms cleaner, they just tend to nest in places that you never want them to. So they themself can turn into pests. And you never want wasps around small children, wasps are also not considered bees or ants in any way. So comparing them to bees isn't really what you do. Most just eat other insects and never touch a flower their whole life.

Many species of wasp actually pollenate.

But not all. Which is why most people consider them as pests.
"Bugmaster"

I feel like you're some kind of bug overlord and that you're trying to weed out bug haters.

Reason enough for me.

I got stung as baby, pretty badly. I got stung again when i was a small kid,... and a third time just before i hit puberty. At which point it became quite clear to me that wasps don't like me.

Its a mutual thing, really.

Exactly. And OP, they are very ineffective pollinators in comparison to bees. They do not have the same build as bees, and as a result, the pollen doesn't stick to them nearly as well. They are predatory creatures that hunt garden pests.

I do not hate wasps, nor do I hate bees.

I've been stung consistently around 8 times a year ever since I was a child, most of the time by wasps, but mostly accidentally (stepping on them usually :c). But I don't hate them. In fact, I love 'yellow jackets' (those cool striped wasps where I live) and last year one landed on me, eating the sugar from my fingers. I didn't want to move (I'm allergic to wasp stings, as I learned the hard way), and I didn't want to hurt it. Eventually, once it was done, it flew away without harming me.

I also have a large hornet nest outside my house, which is cool. They're not aggressive, even if I go near the nest (which I found very interesting).

So yes, wasps are important. Not because of pollination like bees, though they can pollinate as well. But more for their role of balancing out the 'pests'. And no, they probably won't fly out of their way to sting you, unless they feel trapped and like you're going to kill them.
Well said.

8 times a year? Omg, bless you. I'd be paranoid.
