I hate how some indie games make theirs 'retro' by creating them in horrific pixel style. Now I'm not saying the pixel style is ugly or couldn't stand it at all and it goes well with some games, but come on. Minecraft type of games should step their pixel art up, I have seen ♥♥♥♥ load of better detailed pixel games from the 90's.
Pixel art games are great and look good if done right, but it's just lazy with some indie developers.

There's nothing wrong with pixel graphics. They can look really amazing when done well.

The problem is that a lot of people just make ♥♥♥♥ graphics and then try to play it off as a stylistic decision instead of putting some effort into it or hiring a better artist.
There are a lot good indiegames here on the market. But I really dislike the fact that there are also many copygames, who just copy each other but only with slightly different graphics.
( FOR ME ) Stanley Parable and Garry's mod are the better indie games here.

They're not overrated ♥♥♥♥♥ like Five nights at freddy's.

Saying indie is overrated is like saying television or all Chinese food is overrated
It's a general genre with multiple sub-genres.
They aren't all the same.
I admit some indie games are terrible, but some are also my favorite games.

It's not even a genre, really, it's a game development practice, or process, or whatever.
I'd be willing to bet that, if we weren't privy to the developmental details, for many titles we wouldn't be able to tell if one guy built it, or 100 people built it.

This "too many indie games" thing is really just people putting too much weight into it.

Now, deadbeat Early Access developers and shoddy iOS ports... there is definitely too much of that (let's face it, one deadbeat developer is one too many).

what you are describing to me in Borderlands sounds like an Arena style shooter with neat things like double jump.

In 7 Days to Die I can throw pipe bombs. plant land mines just fine.

In Wurm Online there are 10 places on your body that can get hit and various degrees of serverity which require different types and levels of first aid.

Kenshi is working a similar system but has added animation to those affected areas so you limp if you leg is affected etc. If knocked out you need a team mate to carry you.

indie games suck because they have lame 8 bit graphics

His next thread: are grammar overrated?

I think they are. There are good indie games like This War of Mine or Cities Skyline, but the majority of them are bad clones of DayZ ( Infestation for example), Slender Man (Daylight) or Minecraft (Castleminer Z) . Or they are simply bad games like this for example http://store.steampowered.com/app/321030/
So the topic started a flame war, so you left the thread, and started the exact same thread, expecting a different result?

Curious..
Pixel games are overrated. Particularly ones that call themselves 8-Bit. They look NOTHING like real 8-Bit games.
But indie games is not overrated.

We can ask whether they are, though.

Heaven forbid people have differing opinions on a subjective topic. Personally I think it goes both ways, as a stereotype "indie" games can be synonomous with both the good and the bad and I suppose they used to be sort of "over-rated" around about one or two years ago (probably more 'cause my sense of time is atrocious) when the word indie was just about enough to make people buy a game as they compared it to those success stories one often hears about. Now-a-days though, I think we've all sort of cooled off from that and many have come to see that a lot of indie stuff can be right garbage, only existing for the sole purpose of making a quick buck. That was another thing I s'pose, indie titles used to be mainly free, with the purpose of promoting the devs and showing what they can do, hence the generally minamalist art styles and what-not. Any tool can pick up a game engine these days and piddle about for a couple hours and try and sell the product.

That's enough rambling from me (for that is what this is). At the moment, I s'pose there is still enough of a niche appeal for indie games to still be considered "over-rated" by the general audience especially in these times.
