And to answer your question: It is considered bad manners and uncivilized, just like holding your spoon or fork in a hammer grip. And that is probably why your mother cares so much, since it makes her and her way of raising you look bad. People would question if she never educated you on proper table manners.
And some people 1st world problem the fiz out of this.
This is why Greece is in such bad shape, the job market for Spoons has been dropping since people have eaten 30% less soup in 2014 alone!
