Though I've never actually heard of this though. It seems a tad odd. I mean Gamestop doesnt care who buys those cards or how much. They get their money. And you don't appear to be buying so many that it would trigger some kind of fraud detection.
You could probably just buy it in cash. That way there's no way to track you or to enforce the policy.
Yeah I think we have a CVS nearby I asked my mom and she knew of it already. Its just we kinda don't want to cut these guys at Gamestop off. They are very friendly, but just recently when buying steam cards they seem to be more restrictive.
@Satoru
We do buy it in cash money. I believe about 6 to 7 months ago these new guys began working at Gamestop, very friendly- we bought games from them and we became a regular, where they actually looked the other way if we were a dollar or 2 short on cash and they would help pay for it. Eventually one of the employee's wanted to help us and said buy the steam cards, they have deals, and charge lesser then our store. Since then we only bought steam cards.
The employee that reccommended the cards said that he wanted to help us, but didn't want us to cut off buying form gamestop completely. I don't understand how Gamestop's profit gain is from steam cards, but do they lose money with each steam card purchase vs an actual game code?
Sounds more like he's getting flack for 'attachment rates'. Where they have to attach nonsense to purchases like "hey do you want to sign up for X" or "we have insurance" or wahtever junk they have to push. Its not really their fault, they have to because their boss is telling hem to, and their boss is saying the same, etc.
I'm pretty sure Target and Walmart sell the cards. If Gamestop doesn't want your business (and they do stupid things that make you not want to shop there) I would head to those retailers and get the steam cards there instead.
