Kids being exposed to current music
Basically I got to help teach a music class at a primary school. It was their last week so basically they had free time to play and listen/dance to some music. This was a prep class (5-6 year olds) and we asked what the kids wanted to listen to. Some suggestions were:

Anaconda - Nicki Minaj
New Thang - Red Foo
Wrecking Ball - Miley Cyrus

So yeah, basically we played the music and let them enjoy themselves. We didn't have to, we could just force them to listen some other music, but this is what the kids like. Some parents were pretty pssed about the music choice. Note: Their arguement was "It's not real music". No mention of the explicit references they may have.

Agree / Disagree with the decision

There's no denying it is that as well, but pop music never was meant to be too much more then that.

But you're still dismissing a legtimate form of music simply because of the ridiculous notion that lyrics are supposed have any meaningful sense.

Well, yes. What about it doesn't make it music?

While I am aware of the simple fact that the quality of art and its beauty is purely subjective and because of it something pleasing for one may seem terrible to another and in the end neither will be right or wrong for there is no such concept in terms of enjoyment or entertainment, one has to remember that it does indeed go both ways. For one who stresses importance to lyrics and their meaning, it might seem like an insult to consider the likes listed here as music. But if your tastes and priorities are different so would your judgement be. I suppose arguing on it would yield nothing much.
