You can still be a gamer and only rely on integrated graphics if you don't mind only playing indies, 2D and older games.

Yeah, you and I clearly have different definitions of a gamer.

A "gamer" is simply someone who plays games, pretty much anyone is entitled to call themselves that. Adding anything to that definition is simply unnecessary.

If you can't play games that are 2-3 years old, you are not a PC gamer (and most certainly do not belong to the PC master race) and you contribute almost nothing to the gaming industry.

An entirely arbitrary definition. Why the arbitrary cut off date, why even have a date at all? Who said anything about having to contribute to the industry, what counts as contributing, and how much?

There are plenty of Steam accounts used for little else then putting thousands of hours into TF2 and other F2P games, if they aren't "gaming", I don't know what it's called.

"PC master race" is a different thing altogether.

600 mil are playing facebook games and another 100 mil playing LoL.
I'd say 700 mil of these gamers are probably banned CS:GO players who bought CS:GO on sale.

So according to your definition the office dudette playing Solitaire on their office PC is a gamer right? After all, they indirectly bought Solitaire along with Windows from that great gaming company, Microsoft.

Definitions exist for a reason, they are useful.

In the context of this thread there is a clear indication that mostly non-gaming PC owners who contribute nothing to the gaming industry have incorretly been referred to as gamers.

And all those f2p gamers especially from China are responsible for the recent growth in the gaming industry, so they do in fact contribute a lot the industry.

2-3 years is a usual development cycle for a modern PC game, thus if you do not contribute during that time, you haven't contributed at all to the making of the next project.

Talk about a completely depressing and rigid way to look at the definition of being a gamer. Anyone who plays games is a gamer, that even includes people who just play mobile games, and could even be extended to people who play physical games like Chess and such, including your "office dudette" example.

All you're trying to do is discredit other people, so you can have more ways of feeling all superior as part of the "PC master race".

Sorry, but you can't be a PC gamer if you do not buy games. According to everything that is right and just.

PC master race notwithstanding.

And who said I have anything against casual gamers? If someone actually bought Faerie Solitaire on Steam and plays it religiously then they might indeed be a gamer according to that definition.

So the AVGN isn't a gamer since he doesn't buy new ovepriced games and contributes to a oversaturated industry?
