Report: Microsoft Trying To Buy Mojang, Creators Of Minecraft
Though I hate sourcing Kotaku, I'm to lazy to get the other sources :P Source: http://kotaku.com/report-microsoft-trying-to-buy-mojang-creators-of-min-1632692098

Escrito originalmente por Kotaku:

"The Wall Street Journal is reporting that, according to "a person with knowledge of the matter", Microsoft is in "serious discussions" to buy Mojang, the studio that made smash hit Minecraft.

The deal is reported to be worth a whopping $2 billion, and "could be signed as early as this week"."

My thoughts:

If Mojang does do this, they will be one of the most hated companies ever I believe (I think I'm exaggerating a little). Also it wouldn't make any sense so not gonna happen. If it does happen, Microsoft simply lost $2billion lol.

Why would they lose $2 billion? Well a bunch of people will begin to protest. Not to mention that as soon as 1 limitation is added to the game Minecraft, more of an uprising would commense. The main focus part is/are minceraft servers and modding. If they mess with that somehow, they are screwed. Microsoft is going to screw something up. i just know it.

Alot of people have been saying that modding might be limited or be removed from Minecraft if Microsoft does do this. The reason for it is due to their recent steps taken against people who modded on Xbox Live.

This game has only recently been launched onto PlayStation. Hmm, I wonder if the microsoft version would gain any exclusive content...

But what are the chances that Microsoft wants to do this just so that they could get Minecraft support for Win 8 lel?

I'm surprised that this is in serious discussion. I would have thought that Mojang would have just said "No" right off the bat...

Update from PC Gamer:

Article: http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/09/10/notch-approached-microsoft-about-rumored-mojang-buyout-says-bloomberg/

Escrito originalmente por PCGamer:

"Yesterday's all-but-unbelievable rumor is today's "looking like it might actually be so," as reports that Minecraft studio Mojang is on the verge of being acquired by Microsoft continue to surface. Even more interesting, the word on the street is that the idea of the buyout came not from Microsoft, but from Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson himself."

People have most likely moved on to bigger things than MC by now. It's been out for a long while now and I honestly question exactly how much one can play before being sick of it.

Okay, so Mojang gets sold, and notch continues to make games. What's the problem? Mojang is just Microsoft. Matter of fact, the studio will likely get diluted with crap talent anyways.

The problem is that the game Minecraft might have changes that can affect it negatively. Although no one can really say if anything bad could happen, it's possible.

Just think of it like this: How would you react if Microsoft bought Valve?

You maybe may not like Minecraft, but it's still a game and plays a role in the gaming community.

It WAS a big game. Now not so much. Does anyone care what Notch has to say anymore really?

I mean it's big with the kids but does that really affect us on the steam forum?

Also, comparing Valve to MC is terrible. Steam is a platform and it affects a whole lot more people than MC would.

How badly could MS mess up MC anyways? Make certain blocks DLC and restrict world space unless you pay? Idk.

You would be suprised. Minecraft, for PC atleast, has litterally turned into an MMO on some servers. My younger brother and sister both still play minecraft extremely heavily, and they have bought it on 3 systems and play on both the xbox, PC, and PS4. Its a bit insane.

Like I said, its pretty much an MMO now in some respects, and has countless game mods that add value like hunger games or teckit. I don't even play the game and ive been hearing all about this stuff from one source or another.

I thought the same thing as you, but despite this I wouldn't doubt it if someone said it had a higher average population than any game on steam(Dota 2). It is already the second highest selling game of all time, only behind Wii Sports, which was free with any Wii or only costs a few dollars.

Basically, while I played mincraft for a week or 2 then got bored, others didn't and its still probably THE game to buy your kid.

I cringe to think what they will do to Minecraft...but I also start to think about Minecraft with high-res, realistic graphics...

People like you are part of the problem!

then the idea of DLC and no mods sinks in.

*lets go*
Glad you saw the light.

Didn't the Oculus Rift guy say something similar about not selling the company?

Words are nothing; Money is everything.

I wonder if it was the co-creator who got killed who said that. Would make sense if he did. It would also be really sad.

My understanding was that it was Palmer Luckey who said that in a VR forum announcing he will begin his Kickstarter campaign for the OR later that year. But there was nothing in the actual Kickstarter saying they would remain independent. He must have realised that it would be almost impossible to remain independent in an industry that could knock-out their own similar devices for cheaper and sooner.

To be honest, I don't think the Facebook acquisition would make much of a difference. Rather it was Facebook then Amazon, Google, Apple, Sony or Microsoft. Valve would be perfect, except I don't think they have a spare billion dollars to spend on it.

Minecraft earned over $300 million revenue last year. This year its been released on Xbox1 and Ps4.

It's hardly some fad thats over. Still plenty of money to be made from it.

Yeah, but I don't see $2 BILLION being made from it any time soon. Maybe in the next 10 years!

I'd consider it just scamming microsoft of money at this point. That studio hasn't proven their ability to be anything more than a one hit wonder.

and has kotaku really cleaned up their act enough to justify linking to them yet?
minecraft = microcraft?

I thought Facebook bought the Oculus Rift team...
Also, all this Minecraft stuff doesn't matter to me, I lost interest in it shortly after it finished beta.

Good points. if they remove MC from PC release, and only on Xbox, how many people will buy the Xbox for MC?

Or at least, with a one-time price that some bought for MC, now there may be a paid subscription to play, or even micro-transactions. For example, new game skin or new character skin? That will be $0.99 please!
