I don't think I would consider gaming in general to be geeky these days since it's so popular now.

You'd probably have to take it on a case by case basis.

For example just playing madden on your game console doesn't mean that person is a geek, yet someone who plays MUD's would definitely be considered a geek

The one I heard is that:

Geeks > having skills and abilities, from maths, to IT or computer science.
Nerd > someone with deep intrests in certain things.

To be honest, arguments over them and which is "better" is depressing and dull.

i'd have to say a lot of ppl who play video games are actually pretty closed minded and dumb. I'm not saying everyone, but a good majority. So its really actually neither. The "Nerds" or "Geeks" ive ever talked to, didnt even have time for video games or barely even played them.
