society's bias towards vertebrates
Have you ever been tought in school that the main groups of animals are mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, and reptiles. That is complete $#!%. First of all, fish is not one class. It is a clade containing 5 classes. Jawless fish, cartilaginous fish, ray fined fish, lobe-fined fish, and armored fish (extinct). Second, those are just all the vertebrates. Third, those are just 9 of the thousands of classes of animals in 35 different animal phyla. Why dont they teach you all the classes in subphylum chelicera as the main classes of animals. Or what about subphylums mandibulata or cehpelochordata. Or better yet, teach kids about all 35 different animal phyla, or at least all the major ones. This is all because of the society's bias twards vertebrates as the ultimate animals. People think invertebrates are all worthless, bad, useless, gross , filthy, ugly and not important to learn about in schools. Schools either shove all invertebrates into one catagory or don't talk about them at all. It really pisses me off. Why do people treat vertebrates like there the only animals worth mentenioning. I feel bad for obscure animal phylum like sipuncula or rhombozoa. What do you think of all this? Do you know why society is so bias?

Why not both? They both matter in some way, shape or form.
Thank you for the idea. But the reason trying to save pandas is a waste of time is because they refuse to mate in captivity. its like they want to go extinct.

What if the pandas are suicidal because they disgraced their family?
Joking
Has their been any attempts at trying to save endangered invertabrates?

Thats the thing, the government does not care about invertebrates and they have no legal protection. There have been no atemps to do so exempt by small assemblies.

>how school is keeping them down with useless classes instead of videogames 101
Who the hell ever implied this? Specific classification is important, but there's more to life than this.I'd rather learn about how to deal with certain things in life instead of learning about classifications of species.Sure it's interesting, but there's more important things to learn.
You, for example, in this very post.

"How to deal with certain things.... there's more important things...."

Right, the things you deal with daily are more important. The things you care about are more important. And since you're on a videogame board, for videogames, we can only assume that means you deal with videogames daily and they matter to you more than history or writing or calculus or any number of things which you might never use in a million years.

What the ♥♥♥♥,dude? Why are you putting video games into this? No,video games don't matter to me more than actual knowledge.Stop assuming ♥♥♥♥ in order to sound smart. You don't think there's more to life than video games and school? What about personal matters? I've put both school and work behind me numerous times because of personal matters.

I will use my animal knowledge in a million years. The only game i have on steam is scribblenauts unlimited. I like its abllity to do almost anything and i like the animal diversity in the game. what really suprised me is that the game has a sea spider, anomolacaris and basket star. I have all the invertebrates in my magic backback. So my animal knowledge does extend to video games.

Well, you could read my post in the context of this thread and figure it out.

What you consider 'actual knowledge' is arbitrary. What everyone whining about useless classes considers useful is arbitrary.

Seriously? I never considered the basics of learning useless.To me,it goes like this;
Personal matters>Work>>>>>>>>>>>>Games
The only reason I even play video games anymore is to help with depression. What I consider "actual knowledge" would be the basics of learning (Basic math,a good understanding of history and the world, good understanding of english arts, and basic science) and life lessons ,which are never taught in school.
Here's a life lesson for you; Don't assume ♥♥♥♥ of others when you barely know them.

Speaking of games, how do youtubers get so popular just by playing video games

Imagine everyone has a little rulebook which tells you how to determine if information is useful or not. Now suppose that those rulebooks are half gibberish and half "if I consciously use it every week, it's useful". In this world, people would classify information as useful or not based on their personal whims and interests. Spoilers: this is the real world.

Surely a good understanding of the world and basic science would involve this thread's topic.

Christ, this is just too funny.Work is the least of someone's worries when their whole world is falling apart.I know work is important.Stop trying to sound smart.I never implied that useful info is based on a person's interests,I said it's based on their personal life (Friends,family,etc...).I would put everything behind me if someone around me was going through ♥♥♥♥ like that.
Spoiler: Stop being stuck up for once and realize people are humans, not robots.

armored fish (extinct).

Believed to be extinct. The oceans are largely unexplored, humanity actually does know more about its solar system than it does about its oceans.

It also wouldn't be the first animal to be "extinct" that then suddenly shows up again, once people actually bother to go looking.

Why dont they teach you all the classes in subphylum chelicera as the main classes of animals.

They do, in the higher learning institues. And for those with no interest in Biology it hardly makes a difference if they make you learn 9 or well over 30 classes. They will only cover the 9 due to time constraints anyway.

People think invertebrates are all worthless, bad, useless, gross , filthy, ugly and not important to learn about in schools.

People think anything that is not People, is worthless, for the most part. Some people even think all people not of their <insert physical, religious or social trait> are worthless.

Its about time you accept that there is only so much time to go around and teaching a bunch of squeamish kids, that have no interest in biology about dung beetles and worms, isn't exactly the most captivating or useful knowledge in the world.

Why do people treat vertebrates like there the only animals worth mentenioning. [...] Do you know why society is so bias?

Because they are cute and cuddly and its easier for people to relate to other mammals than to care about worms and bugs. And if you are a biology teacher, having to deal with 20 to 30 brats, of which all but one or two have no interest in what you are doing, then you too pick the animals the majority of them might be interested in. And that is horses, dogs, cats, dolphins and sharks. Maybe push the one animal you personally are fond of, or remember the most about, just to keep it interesting for you, as well as reduce your prep workload...

Then you cram that into maybe 4 weeks worth of school, spanning maybe a total of 8 to 12 hours total, and you end up with the common bias for cute and cuddly.

Three words: Cute And Cuddly.
