society's bias towards vertebrates
Have you ever been tought in school that the main groups of animals are mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, and reptiles. That is complete $#!%. First of all, fish is not one class. It is a clade containing 5 classes. Jawless fish, cartilaginous fish, ray fined fish, lobe-fined fish, and armored fish (extinct). Second, those are just all the vertebrates. Third, those are just 9 of the thousands of classes of animals in 35 different animal phyla. Why dont they teach you all the classes in subphylum chelicera as the main classes of animals. Or what about subphylums mandibulata or cehpelochordata. Or better yet, teach kids about all 35 different animal phyla, or at least all the major ones. This is all because of the society's bias twards vertebrates as the ultimate animals. People think invertebrates are all worthless, bad, useless, gross , filthy, ugly and not important to learn about in schools. Schools either shove all invertebrates into one catagory or don't talk about them at all. It really pisses me off. Why do people treat vertebrates like there the only animals worth mentenioning. I feel bad for obscure animal phylum like sipuncula or rhombozoa. What do you think of all this? Do you know why society is so bias?

It's more like a daycare nowadays. They just tell you to memorize everything instead of actually teaching you useful things.

Sorry,
But,

I really don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about invertebrates.
I don't care if I'm taught about all the animals and their skeletal structures.
Never in my life will I think back and go,
"Wow,
I'm so glad I know about each kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species that man so self-righteously labeled,
I'd much rather spend my life understanding the bodily make-up of every organism,
Then to actually make the most of my life before I reach my last days,
Lest I realize how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless everything I have ever learned, or aspired to know, has become, in the face of the abyss."
Because learning all these little things sure is going to help me pay taxes, rent, and buy food!
You know what, physics isn't gonna help you do that either. My problem is why do they misinform you in lower grades?

"How could anyone take this seriously?"
"By staying in school."
"I LEARNED STUFF IN SCHOOL"

Um, ok.

Seriously, they should teach these things in school, but there are some things more important than learing about classification of animals.

*sigh
I'm trying to say,
In your last breath
Would you rather be thinking about
The invertebrates you learned in school,
Or
The ♥♥♥♥ you did in your life to make it worthwhile?

They misinform kids in lower grades in order to simplify things. They can't get into the grit of things. They have to cover the basics first. In other words, time constraints is the reason why these things aren't taught.

I don't understand why in school they taught more things aside from creationism.

OK you got me there.

I wouldn't blame society for the exclusion of this, however.

Yes, for example, learning about the importance of those animals re: the natural world and human endeavors. OP tried to bring up how this stuff gets glossed over, but nobody here wants to discuss that. Instead it's a lot of complaining about how school is keeping them down with useless classes instead of videogames 101.

Who the hell ever implied this? Specific classification is important, but there's more to life than this.I'd rather learn about how to deal with certain things in life instead of learning about classifications of species.Sure it's interesting, but there's more important things to learn.

Why not both? They both matter in some way, shape or form.
