We need another show like Married With Children
I actually spent tonight flipping through various network sitcoms and they're all the same -- emasculated man with a wife "out of his league" and wise cracking kids who do nothing but reinforce what a pathetic piece of ♥♥♥♥ he is. I think this trope started with Home Improvement, but it's made ever modern sitcom completely unwatchable.

Why isn't there a single show in 2025 like Married With Children? It stars a man, even though he's drawn the short stick in life, not afraid to assert what's important to most men or stand up to his Karen neighbor. He's not whipped or feminized, but an actual guy putting traditional masculine ideals first.

At this point, a show like that would be such a novel experience that it would almost certainly be a hit. And the endlessly crying from the BlueSky types about it would only help the ratings.

I watched this other night and I don't think the audience realized just how deep and profound the show really was.

I mean the Simpsons was somewhat like Married with Children, to the extent that the Married with Children staff complained about it, even though they were on the same network.

They barely got it on air when it was new. They could never do it now. Marcy won. No more Psycho Dad.

King of the Hill
Al Bundy was just Archie Bunker for the 80s/90s. You weren't supposed to identify with him or see him as a hero. He's a strawman mockery of certain ideals they wanted to make fun of.
Yeawell... Married was an anomaly. It's hard to imagine now... but back then, we only had three tv stations (plus pbs). Fox had just started, and while some people had cable... it wasn't common. I remember everyone going out and buying little antennas to get UHF, so you could get Fox. Fox was definitely the David against the big three Goliaths.

They put a bunch of stuff on air that the big three wouldn't touch with a ten-meter cattle prod. And they got audience because it was new/shiny and really cheap.

These days... the entertainment landscape is very very different. If some channel did put out a Married, it wouldn't be one of the big guys. Too controversial. I mean, look at all the shows Tim Allen's done in the last decade. Sure, it skews to the conservative side, but it's nothing like Married.

Anyway... there prolly is a new Married out there. But nobody is watching it.

Isn't that show a soap opera like in the 90's? Those were the best. I would say the society has changed and it isn't all for the good.

It would anger thin skinned people or they would yell "discriminatory".

No, it was a sitcom. Soap Operas are something completely different from Married with Children.

Well, yes. The closest any soap opera IMO could have gotten to Married with Children was Passions and even then only insofar that it was a somewhat ridiculously comedic show.

Also had unironic witches and wizards, which was why I watched it on the regular.

But even then you're still right on the money in that there weren't any soap operas around that time or in modernity that were close in terms of subject matter and humor as Married with Children. It was a good show, albeit one I probably should not have been watching while in ♥♥♥♥♥♥' kindergarten. They won't make anything like that anytime soon on legacy or missing link outlets.

The indie scene, though, might have something worth checking out that's on par with it. I would give you a lead, but I don't think I have one of those at the moment.

The show went downhill when Steve left.

Try Rules of Engagement.
the show was pure BS since the house would be out of a shoe sales man pay range......

Was my favorite show during it's time, still is a great show, a classic. If we were to convey anything Kelly stated we would be reprimanded, harassed and banned.
