Universal Basic Income?
How come this issue isn't really brought up much besides I remember presidential candidate Andrew Yang brought it up as granting income to everyone who can't get jobs in a scenario where every job in the world is automated. Unemployment was a major issue during 2020 and it still is today with the job market.

It could possibly work if a government had a balanced budget and it would meet the cost of livings for everyone. Not to mention who will buy consuming items if nobody has a job.

If successful, what would we do in a post-work society?

for one thing we'd have the time to discuss economics in actual detail, rather than leaning on inactionable economic truths that were made up to con people into making poor choices.
Why work if you can make a living without lifting a finger, sure it may be some crap apartment, but half of the people who currently getting government assistance have free cellphones, the internet and better food than the working class on average. This would cripple a nations economy in the long run, and would be unsustainable. It is a nice dream, but I doubt it will ever be more than that.
i love hyper inflation! i xant wait for a pack of ramen to suddenly cost $5 instead of $0.50!!! yay!!!!!

UBI will kill incentive and therefor progress.

there's so many incentives in today's economy, like starving to death at your third restaurant job.

What happened was BRICS, China/russia winning., usa not being able to default like it did in the past, losing the petro dollar, etc.

When enough people are relieved of paying taxes ( ie displaced by Ai)

There will be ai based economics ultimately. It may be called UBI or something else, we don't know.

Way too many people still pay taxes atm

That's how I see it.

so nothing happened, they just squelched the initiative and went back to exacerbating cyclical depressions caused by insecure wealth transfer in the form of poor lower class liquidity.

It worked wonders in Finland in the research/test they made.
Me personally housing and food should be free. But here’s the catch. Free housing and food would be very subpar. The house would be similar to a prison cell that is very small. If you want to upgrade then you’re gonna fork some cash.

"Life should be free, but only if you're working for me!"

In the limited tests done in EU countries ubi actually worked in the way it was meant to. People had jobs and ubi topped them up. More people found work whilst getting ubi than ones just living on ubi.

I'm not informed enough to say if it's a good or bad idea.

I want to be able to gain my own money, I don't want that kind of income coming from the state, I don't trust these guys.

i think they would rather kill all of us rather than have a bunch of useless eaters. Probably a bioweapon while they hide on mega yachts and underground bunkers.

the US' ubi programs were canned because they inhibited shortsales by contributing to long term economic growth and value.

even very small programs like california's golden state advantage or the COVID stimuluses had immediate, observable impacts of this nature.
