The "positive good" defense of slavery
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pro-slavery_ideology_in_the_United_States

This stance arose in response to the growing anti-slavery movement in the United States in the late 18th century and early 19th century. Various forms of slavery had been practiced across the world for all of human history, but during the American Revolution, slavery became a significant social issue in North America. At this time, the anti-slavery contention that it was both economically inefficient and socially detrimental to the country as a whole was more prevalent than philosophical and moral arguments against slavery. However this perspective rapidly changed as the worldwide demand for sugar and cotton from America increased and the Louisiana Purchase opened up vast new territories ideally suited for a plantation economy.

By the early 19th century, anti-slavery arguments began to depart from claims that it was economically inefficient and towards the contention that slavery was inherently immoral. In response, pro-slavery advocates fought against the abolitionists with their own morality-based defense, which invariably stressed their view that slaves were both well treated and happy, and included illustrations which were designed to prove their points.

Bro what's the TL;DR version of this?
The outrage over the publication of Small House of Uncle Thomas was a major source of the 'happy slave' aspect of lost cause myth.

Really disgusting.
the slavery issue was an issue long long before.

the priests who acompagnied the spanish soldiers in the first decades..
were actually sincere in promishing those who converted and accept lordship of the spanish king over them, to remain free man, and their property left untouched
->
enslaving those who did horrorific human sacrifice and worshipped devils was ok to them it was after all the inquisition.. but one does NOT harm fellow christians..

ofcourse the spanisch soldiers cared nothing for this and to the protests of the priests took ANY gold they saw and enslaved ANY indian they saw...

(similair feelings excisted until very late in the usa in the distiction between civilizited tribes and non civilizated tribes... but ofcourse those promises and treaties were worth less than the paper they were written on.)

in regards of the slave trade of africans....
**it was most populair in africa itself.. as it was a mayor source of revenue to them, it was africans enslaving other africans selling them to europeans for european goods (mostly textile, tools and guns)
these goods in turn were made by european "serfs" poorhouses where native dutch, english, german, french, spanish, etc etc people were basicly enslaved too.. to craft these textiles, tools and guns... if you were poor you were framed as immoral.. and if you were homeless/unemployed even more so.. it was a punishment by God for if you were moral and Good you would be wealthy.. thus putting those people in workhouses.. to learn them dicipline.. is good for them!

those who migrated to most of latin america were the upper classes of spanish society.. those same who worked the indians to extinction and who had no issue doing the same with africans... thats why slavery there ended later...

but in north america.. well.. it was always much more an issue.. after all tose who moved to north america were more often poor.. in exchange for x years of servitude in usa they got a ticket there and a chance to escape overpupulated and feudal europe where they could not climb the ladder of society but there they could become landowners and thus free man.
-> this was also why the death penalty was set upon going tribal.
the wild tribal way of indians is much more apealing espcially if you look forward to help settle a colony that has a very high chance of you being dead in a few years... by whatever cause..
and quite a lot of white europeans left the colonies and joined the indian tribes... living their way
(while the reverse indians adopting the european way of living basicly only happend by force.. if they basicly were cut of from the wild land that allowed them that lifestile..
-
not surprisingly that it were mostly the former spanish states that were pro-slavery.

and had the cotton-gin been invented a little later it's quite likely slavery would have gone away 200 years earlier..
sadly the cotton-gin made plantations profitable again.. and by that extended the era of slavery...

most europeans thus were unknowing of that whole slave trade.. and those who knew of it found it often apalling..
there was apartheid sure.. like mixed marriages were frowned upon, and say in indonesia.. the dutch would have different shops, cinema's, schools, churches etc than the natives.. many places have two seperate entry doors and counters.... one for the dutch one for the native..
natives could only watch cinema by looking at the other side of the screen.. aka in mirrored image..
but nothing akin the horror that you saw in the america's

the irony is that by the time it started to get abolished by the europeans... the very african nations that sold them got very very mad (for it was THEIR export and source of revenue that now was cut off)
and in part the scramble for africa was needed to finally nail that coffer somewhat shut.

(though under islam and in india they enslave people still till this day.. and the 25cnt a day sweatshops in china.. and workcamps in north korea and china.. are effectivy still slavery too..
so in a lot of places of the world slavery is not at all history...

when people start to frame white europeans for "being evil enslavers' there have been far more of us enslaved by others (mostly islam) than we ever have enslaved.. and we were the first and only ones that said slavery is not cool. lets end it..

if you leave it to any other group, black, middle eastern, asiatic, indian, polynesian, native american they still be enslaving their fellow man... and often they still do.

We got our first Republican president because of slavery - Abraham Lincoln. He abolished it.
I don’t like the idea of being owned by another human being.
And now we have a Federal holiday on June 19th. That's pretty good.

I look at my paycheck. 1,800 dollars weekly. 7,200 a month. That’s after tax and that’s me rounding it to the nearest hole number.
