ANZAC Day - April 25
(This was a comment I've decided to turn into a Post (if I got that terminology right), after Angel acknowledged ANZAC Day. Deserves it's own thread)

I'm glad someone else still honours this day. ANZAC comes from World War One but we celebrate all our veterans living and gone, from all conflicts, on April 25, the day we invaded Turkey for the British empire in a disasterous campaign, and made out first mark on the world stage as a nation. We never forget our link with New Zealand and Turkey, forged in this baptism of fire.

This song, has kicked me in the guts since I was a kid. It's the most real and touching dedication in song I've heard so far. I wanted to post the original version.

Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. It's a day of remembrance for those who served for those two countries.

Lest We Forget

I was actually thinking about that song Ruckman that many sing it freely but the song changes once it's given context.

I remember going early in the morning to honour those at the Memorial Shrine. Everyone there didn't really know each other but for a moment, we ignored our differences and there was a great sense of unity.

Some songs are just amazingly well done, aren't they.

Yep there are still folks who get to the dawn services. And it's the only day Two-Up is allowed.
Some traditions are good for a nation.

I spent a long time living in New Zealand every year I still take a moment to remember on ANZAC day as well as my own countries rememberence day. Thanks for shining a light on the brave forces often forgotten. Lest we forget.

Ah yes the song about a sheep thief who'd rather die than get arrested for it by the rich folks (who owned the sheep) - not our national anthem, but it is our national song!

The one I quoted earlier references the sheep thief song.

Yeah I am - Oi Oi Oi, mate!
