Coffee thread

Ok so I am a "coffee snob" or however you want to say it. I love coffee but it has to be good coffee.

I use to drink Charbucks a lot but then I discovered I could make much better at home. At one time when I had a career that actually made money I had a Espaziale Mini Vivaldi espresso machine and a 2k$ Malkonig grinder. It blew Charbucks and any other chain coffee I had ever tried out of the water. Of course I was buying $25 a lb coffee beans too. Then I discovered Redbird espresso blend that I could get for $10 a lb if I bought 5lbs at a time and used that for years.

Anyway, fast forward to now when I am broke. This time of year I prefer cold coffee drinks. I discovered a $18 "cold brewer" on Amazon. It's just a half gallon mason jar with a nice stainless mesh filter and a good plastic leak proof lid. Add your coffee, I am currently using Sam's Columbian that you can get for like $13 for 2.5 lbs, slowly pour in Luke warm water until the jar is full. I leave it on the counter for 12 hours then in the refrigerator for another 12-36 hours depending on how fast I go through the previous batch (I have two of them so I always have a batch brewing). Then you remove the filter and you have wonderful coffee concentrate.

I like it strong so I add 50/50 water and concentrate with a splash of heavy cream over a lot of ice with a sugar free sweetener. I get about 3.5 40oz iced coffees per batch.

If you try this beware how much caffeine these contain if you are easily affected by it.

Just grind some beans, stick in my espresso machine and pour most a cup, Add a tiny bit of milk.

I forgot to mention that my cold coffee obsession was due to McDonald's iced coffee. McDonald's has very good coffee at a reasonable price. Other than egg mcmuffins it's the only thing I like there.

When you think about, freshly ground beans is where it's at. That's the product. And a simple drip will suffice.

But, I know people with espresso machines and they swear by them. Meh.

I like lots of cream and sugar in my coffee too. Call it hot coffee ice cream.

Honey? Hmm I am diabetic so I stay away from sugary sweeteners but that is something I have never tried. Sounds good though!

I use Columbian and Brazilian coffee beans with a double shot. I'm actually learning latte art currently.

That is fun. I got pretty good at a couple simple ones when I had my espresso machine.
