What do you think of Discord starting to require age verification?
https://www.soapcentral.com/pop-culture/discord-introduces-face-scan-age-verification-amid-safety-push

In the Ukay and Australia at the start.

They want you either to scan your face, or you show your government I.D.

Me personally, I abandoned the service when it wanted my irl phone number. Which I have no reason to give to a company that I'm not buying anything from. Thats collecting and selling my data, recording everything.

On the one hand you have safety. On the other you have further eliminating online anonymity, specially in places like the UK where you may need that more than ever. And on the A.I. side your improving the a.i. facial detection and building a database of images most likely.

Last time I used it was many years ago in WoW raids, back when I still raided.

Doesn't bother me.

My general opinion is that we should all have a universal government number, and that should be the only way that governments interact with us.

Our name should never be part of legal documentation.

Then we could just use that number to verify age.

No, thanks, I don't want social media platforms to have my personal information and censor me even harder by making the bans absolutely permanent when they have my ID.

I get why social media platforms should require ID because freaks and weirdos are grooming kids, but I don't see why adults should suffer because parents have no control over their kids' online activity.

It's about as effective as asking whether you're a robot or not.
I have heard stories of discord calling the police on people before, just for the things they say. And I wouldn't be surprised if they'd censor/report people for the Uk government.

There is also of course, if everywhere adopts a system to censor and block adult content. A puritan leader could come to power and decide even adults should not have access to such things.

There are people that believe that Visa/Mastercard as a arm of the us government want the ability to censor all adult content. Or to be selective, such as the hate against anime, or possibly like with modern games, decide what is allowed to be attractive or not.

I'm Australian but I don't have a camera or ID. I'm lucky I don't have discord, I guess.

I don't see it as suffering.

It's organising the components of a large wet machine in a more efficient fashion.

I like efficient, and I couldn't care less what other people like just like they don't care what I like.

I'm under no obligation to act as you desire.

The universe will get in my way if I do anything actually wrong.

You're not, but companies are if they want to sell their ♥♥♥♥. And governments also are if they want to still get voted, well in countries where people are allowed to vote.

Companies have broken the laws of nations for centuries without ceasing to exist and will continue to violate the laws of nations without ceasing to exist.

A law isn't a wall, it's a curb easily stepped over.
