Do you think Gayle King is an astronaut?
Do you think Gayle King is an astronaut because she took a joy ride to "space" for 2 minutes or so?

This is one of those things where it doesn't really matter. Is she an astronaut? Sure why not, who cares? In the future when humans are living in space, these labels will no longer matter and new labels will appear. In b4 "words have meaning" dorks come in.

I think what people should really be mad at is that space has become a tourist destination for rich people. It just means that eventually when all the world is polluted or on fire to the point where it can no longer support life anymore, these people will be living in some swanky space station watching us all eat each other to survive.

None of us will be on the arks when they build em.

Many of us could be on the B arks

💋
I think the technical definition of astronaut, at least by NASA standards, is they have to contribute to the operation of the spacecraft. So none of these tourists are really astronauts.

Is it a case of 'Passenger' vs 'Sailor'?
Or can pioneer/first-of-many status, elevate a 'Passenger' into a 'Sailor'?

Is astronaut a person actively forges merely or passes thru space?

the real question:
- are you questioning the definition of astronaut,
- or are you ass mad against Gayle King

This discussion has been going on ever since these private spaceflight started a few years ago.

it's hardly a definition anyone cared about - even back then.
Context Matters: look at the OP's posthistory and tell me why this question appeared in OT.

Money cannot buy everything. Even if these people who've gone into space purely for their wallet size do several laps around and are given honorary titles does not equate to the years of education, experience and knowledge of those in astronautics.

No. None of them are “astronauts” or “crew members”.

They rode in a large phallus and experienced a few moments of zero gravity. Nothing was controlled by them.

By the same token I have flown in a plane many times, that makes me a seasoned pilot.

No, just because I haven't seen her talking smack about how she is an astronaut. If she, similar to Gayle has been doing so, please feel free to link it in this thread.

GayleKing's still in the media limelight (relavence).
KatyPerry's fallen off. She doesn't get media attention anymore.

Admit it - your posthistory(pages and pages) explains why you focused on GayleKing.
